Since there's not much to talk about lately, I thought I'd show you what I was up to last week. I know most of the readers aren't avid nordic skiers but I find it a great sport when the high pressure sets in. Plus I'm training for next weekend's Boulder Mountain Tour in Sun Valley. I plan to bring along my alpine boots and get in a day on Baldy.
The Wanoga Plateau is a rolling flat halfway up Century Drive on the way to Mt Bachelor. It's at about 5000 ft elevation and doesn't always have adequate snow cover on some years. Plus it's snowmobile city but if you hit it right after the Mooncountry Club boys groom, it's wonderful for skate skiing. And you can bring your dog. In addition it's only 15 minutes from town so you can go at "lunch".
Yesterday the dreaded "freezing fog" rolled into town. It's thick and cold and it reminds me of a 60's low-budget thriller called the Crawling Eye. These monster eyes on octopus legs would decapitate Swiss tram employees. The fog would roll in and shortly after the crawling eyes would attack. Anyone see it?
Obviously we need a little powder soon...
