just a quick report from whistler opening day...
we've been getting pounded with precip for the past week and half or so. the snow line has been averaging around 1000m, meaning the top 2/3 of the mountains are getting puked on.
this is by far better than the past two opening days, with a base already at 130cm and cumulative at 250cm. last year it took until dec 29 to hit those levels.
the alpine chairs haven't opened yet - man are they beckoning. shale slope looks better than i've ever seen it. not sure when they're scheduled to open - hoping it's midweek, but i doubt it!
riding was good on saturday - i was respectful of the early season conditions - but i saw some people behaving like it was mid-jan. i found coverage in the trees to be thin and almost wound up pulling myself out of a tree well.
our 5 day forecast is snow every day! damn good way to start the season!
