So we arrived at the ritz in beaver creek on the 26th with a forecast of 1-2 inches on the 27th, 5-7 on the 28th, 6-8 on the 29th and 3-5 on the 30th. The snow gods decided to be awfull to us, and we recived 1" (if that) over all 4 days. Yah its a major bummer that the sking in denver is better than here, but on the other hand, i cant complain too much because, the conditions here are still better than the majority of the USA.

Anyway, the conditions were good the first 2 days at the beav. The trees still had some good snow in them, (one of the reasons i often favor beaver creek over vail is the fact that i can always find fresh lines in the trees even 3 or 4 days after a storm). The majority of skiers pretty much come here for their famous 24/7 grooming, and that just leaves more snow for me.

On the 29th i went to Vail, and found pretty much the same conditions, the back bowls were ok, but every once in a while you would come across some hard crust, and well that wasnt fun.

Back to the beav on the 30th, and this is when the condtitions started to decline, the groomers had groomed Golden Eagle (The World Cup Championship Downhill Race Course) which is always fun to fly down, and actually had the best condiotions thanks to its higher altitude. I took a bad spill on a J box in the park after lunch, which gave me a bloody nose, and a bruised up body.

Today though, had by far the worst conditions of the trip, everything that had been groomed felt like a sheet of ice with about an inch of chopped up snow on it. The bump runs wernt too bad, but they were still a bit too hard for me to consider it "fun bump riding".

On the brighter side, i have a day of cat skiing booked for tuesday, and hopefully that will quench my powder thirst at least for a little while.

I'll post photos when i get back on the 5th, till then pray for some snow.

Everyone got robbed.

Telluride got about 3 feet from the first storm.

So NOAA forecasts another 2 feet for this storm - nothing -- well 2-3", but nothing.

The problem - Central Colorado got robbed the last storm too. While the SW was getting 3-4 feet, the Vail/Summit got 6" and Denver got 2 feet +.

Anyways, the media coverage was great for Colorado despite the reality of the mountains.

Oddly, those debilitating Denver storms seem to have led to a record Christmas holiday at Utah resorts despite an average snowpack and little new snow. Many who were Colorado-bound rerouted to Utah. I heard on the radio last night that our hotel bookings are up 20-30% above normal heading into January.

And the second storm last weekend dropped no snow at all in the Colorado resorts, though it was responsible for those 22 inches at Taos.

Old Chinese proverb: When you got it, flaunt it!
Certain Central Oregon ski area today reported these results...

West Village Depth (6300') 101"
West Village Temperature 25° F
Mid Mountain Depth (7300') 103"
Pine Marten Temperature 22° F
Summit Temperature 19° F
