What's the word on Tahoe in next 2 weeks?

Hey out there -

Just wondering what current conditions are like, see alot of rain/snow mix on the weather boards I'm watching, but how is it REALLY? :D

Hoping to come out early March and trying to get a read on what to expect... sun and cement, or a little colder and perhaps fluffier.

Many thanks in advance!

I wouldn't worry much. The short term shows snow levels between 6,000 and 7,000 with not much precipitation predicted, and 95% of Tahoe's terrain is above 7,000 ft. Once you get more than a week out weather forecasts aren't worth much.

The bases are very deep. If it's dry it will almost certainly be warm and everything will have great skiing if you time it right. And north facing steeps (like I skied last weekend at Kirkwood and Mt. Rose) will still have dry winter snow.

I would echo Tony's comments about reading the weather reports. If you check Reno you'll get worried but they are around 4500 feet I think and about 10 degrees warmer than the mountains. So fire up weather.com for Truckee or South LakeTahoe and you'll get a better idea of the snow level. As an alternative snowbomb.com covers the Sierra slopes in depth and has links on the main page to local weather.

I'm flying out next week for a couple of days and will post while I'm there. Ah, free wifi :D

just got back yesterday (saturday) and you should be fine. they had snow showers in the forecast for sunday-tuesday and seasonable temps for the next week. base depths were huge at the places we were at, so unless there's a big warmup, the snow's not going anywhere soon.
