Where's the best place to ski Friday?

NHPH, have you ever been to The Balsams? I've driven by it before, but never stopped in.

I'm not exactly their target market, of course...

Yes, many moons ago (early 90's). Beautiful mountain with good snow. Not alot for challenge but still a place everyone should visit once.
I think they market for the upper middle class family as the Balsams Hotel is a "Grand Hotel". And unless you ski, cross country-ski,or hunt moose, there isnt much to do.

Given the rain, the skiing won't be great anywhere, but you can at least get your money's worth at Sugarbush where they have $5.50 lift tickets this friday.

I think the best skiing will be in Michigan. The ski areas got a few fresh inches and didn't get any rain.

maybe aleyeska, ak....probably the only place in north america that won't be 30 min lift lines

I noticed that nice 12+ snow band right across the penninsula; Mt. Bohemia is probably rocking. I guess we have no users from that area because my posts about that mountain never got any reply from anyone in that region.

That's because only wolves and polar bears live within a day's drive of the place.

I don't expect any liftlines tomorrow, however I will be at work. This weekend should also be relatively quiet (Christmas and New Year are generally great day to make alot of turns).

The snow started to change to the freezing rain at 7:30am, it is now pouring outside. Need to buy me a lunch plus get some last minutes things.

Forecast in the last hours. Snow, Freezing Rain, RAIN (NOW), Snow tonight, Freezing cold for Saturday.

Merry Christmas to all and hope you get great conditions to ski during the Holidays and in the NEw Year.

Best Wishes...

Patrick

Check out the Sugarbush website. I hear they have a $5 ticket Friday, and several I know are planning to hit it tomorrow.

Conditions all hinge on the changeover from rain to snow tonight. If enough white stuff blankets the wet snow, it may not be bulletproof tomorrow morning. That changeover may vary widely from east to west across NH & VT, and south to north.

Even at $5, it may not be worth the drive if it's a skating rink tomorrow.
