what can i say? i haven't posted recently because i've been too busy riding. it was a slow start, but things have been awesome lately. i missed out on the first big dumps over the holidays. i was riding in quebec instead. but since i've been back it has been dumping every day.
the base is excellent, we've been getting refreshed daily and we've had a couple of huge dumps in the past two weeks. supposed to be getting another tonight. anywhere above 1000m is great on both mountains. base is still thin on the runouts, but who cares. we may have to download a little earlier in the spring but at least there'll be good reason to keep going up.
couple of highlights recently:
- fresh lines in lakeside bowl
- cornice drops in harmony
- face shots in west bowl
- steep and deep in flute
- full run down peak to creek (although i wouldn't recommend it)

looks like a good season all around. hope everyone's enjoying it!

I'm thinking of coming out next week or the one after. This is my first trip to Whistler, and I'm wondering what sort of lineups I should expect. I understand they have a lot of uphill capacity, but they also have a lot of skiiers. What was the traffic like when you were there?

i know you're right, tony. it's amazing what a difference a few weeks can make. but when you've been sitting around through 4 weeks of drought, it's easy to get down about it.
maury, i have found lift lines to be light throughout most of the season, with the exception of christmas break, and whenever march break falls. even then you can find plenty of terrain to yourself, you'll just be waiting a bit longer at the bottom. january is typically a light tourist month so i would definitely recommend a trip in the next few weeks. not to mention the snow conditions are fantastic.

Fantastic! Now I just need to get in touch with a friend in Van and see if I can bum a ride up.

They have busses right from the airport now though, right?

the perimeter express bus leaves from the airport. it's not cheap though - i think about $70 one way. the greyhound is a lot cheaper (about $35 return i think), but you have to get to the downtown bus terminal which would probably cost you $30 in cab fare. so in the end it's not much of a savings. best bet is to convince your friend to pick you up and buy him a case of beer. you'll still come out ahead.
funny, after telling you about the crowds, this past weekend was the busiest i have ever seen it up here. but that had to do with the 87cm dump and the american holiday. mid-week is quiet and usually the weekends aren't that bad. couldn't believe the liftlines yesterday...probably an hour wait to get onto creekside gondola in the morning. i didn't wait. i spent 45 minutes in the singles line on glacier express the day before. still worth it though cause i got a fresh line when they opened the glacier.
enjoy your trip! you won't find better snow than what's out here right now.
