I'm under some time constraints so I'm going to keep it short. I started of the day skiing by myself on the blackcomb glacier. It was great. They got around 6 to 7 inches and in some spots where the wind had blown it up I'd say about ten. Needless to say I was very happy. The light was flat, but by and large it was fine. On my second run however the glacier was not as nice. Many weaker skiers traverse across a lot of the lines and it really ruins what should be some very straight forward fall line skiing. I also began to appreciate Alta because of all the freaking post-holes screwing up what should be simple traverses and exits.
After about noon I received a call from Nikki saying she was ready to ski, so I headed down to Blackcomb's base, which, IMHO is far superior to whister's. We headed up towards Crystal hut which Nikki had heard served some nice waffles. In order to get to the Crystal chair we had to do a couple headwalls which were moderately steep blues. To be honest I was worried that I was pushing Nikki to hard, but she just went at it. She was so happy about the boots. She said they were incredibly comfortable, so she was very happy.
While eating late-lunch at Crystal hut some poor guy started asking around about his skis. It turned out that they had been stolen, and it was a shame as they were decked out with Dukes. I can't remember the type of skis they were, but I told him to put up post about it on TG and First Tracks, just in case someone was offered fishy skis.
After we ate we skied down to the base of Blackcomb, skiing mostly blues. Nikki was ecstatic. She was making good turns, and her boots were very comfortable. The pride she had from skiing that terrain was visible from the beaming smile on her face. I'm very happy both for her, and for me, as my investment in her skiing seems to be paying off. Tomorrow, I will get an early start of it while my family sleeps to take advantage of the overnight snow. Saturday looks like a biggy!
