Whistler? Inland? SLC?

Anyone want to make a guess for next week? Looks like I can get the week off, and I've got the cash, so I'm thinking of doing my first pre-xmas ski trip of recent memory.

I see SLC's been dumped, and I have a ball last time I was down, so I'm keeping it on the shortlist. Flights are pretty cheap too, not the $300 I paid last time, but $500 ain't bad either. Add a last minute cheap-o motel and a rent-a-wreck and you have an instant vacation.

But I've never been to Whistler, and I hear they've had more snow already than a typical year. I don't see any posts here though. Is this the time to do Whistler? It's a bit more expensive, but I don't need a car and can pretty much ski onto the lifts. The only downside I can see is that it's five days at one place, and I do like to wander a bit.

So does anyone know what's going on at Whistler NOW? The forecast on their page calls for "trace" rain later this week, then 20 To 30 CM of snow on Sat. Am I stupid not to go?

Whistler is like 8,000 acres if my memory serves me right. I would surely doubt you would get board here for a week... I had a ball there a few years ago. Not to mention it looks like they have been getting killed with snow.

There is absolutely no question in my mind that you should go to Whistler. With 173 inches snowfall so far and a 67-inch base most of that 8,000 acres is going to be skiable and you won't come close to skiing everything in 5 days.

Sharon is going to Seattle in the same time frame for similar quality skiing.

Utah is only average so far, and outside of Alta and Brighton you can expect many areas with sketchy conditions or limited terain open.

We spent 9 days at WB, and that was not enough! Plus, they just added more acreage.

Be prepared for changing conditions, but it looks like a safe bet.

Then again, if you want to wander around, go to Silver Star, and ski that plus Big White and Sun Peaks, with a rental car of course.

Envy you! Enjoy!

Conditions sound very good at Whistler. But I'm hoping that conditions continue to improve at SLC since a buddy and I will be there next week. We chose SLC because it was easy to arrange and we couldn't swing good connections in and out of Vancouver. Otherwise, we'd plan to see you in Whistler.

As others have said, Whistler/BC are so big that you cannot explore the place adequately in 5 days.

Enjoy!

we've had mixed weather the last few days, but that's all relative compared to the snow we got last month. supposed to rain tomorrow and into friday, then turn cold and snow.
apparently the conditions off the peak today were great since it didn't open yesterday. the overall coverage looks like mid-jan. i find it hard to imagine you'd find better conditions anywhere else in north america right now. i've already had 10 powder days this season.
one other bonus, if you are here on dec. 16 you can ride the new symphony express on opening day. no doubt it will be a zoo, but i would come for that reason alone.

Yeah I saw this update and immediately booked my tickets! Two feet of snow the night I arrive... sweet! Only booked for four days though, the flight back is always annoying and I didn't feel like doing the Friday-night redeye at my tender age.

I'll save SLC for Feb, I'm going to take a couple of trips this year anyway. I wouldn't mind doing Kicking Horse again at some point too, I had a ball there last year.
