Wow!!! What a fantastic day. Spring skiing doesn't get any better at
Whiteface than it did today. Too bad this isn't 4/15 or so instead of 3/9.
It's going fast and I get the feeling the fat lady is going to be singing
real soon.

I was almost tempted to journey over to Jay if I couldn't find anyone to
ski with over here but I was able to get Shana to accompany me and met up
with buddies Greg and Dave. Shana and I stayed above mid station all day
and had great shirt sleeve skiing everywhere. The lifts were fairly busy
all day but nothing more than a five minute wait. As many people were
hanging on the deck and sun soaking as skiing at any given time. The best
trail of the day was McKenzie and especially the upper part. I was partial
to the glades but they were pretty thin and scratchy in places. Most of the
trails had major brown out sections that required tricky maneuvering to get
through. Every ride up a lift found more and more brown spots getting
bigger. Perhaps the best run of the day was our last. We did a full length
Parkway run that was soft but very stable corn and no bumps whatsoever.

I wish there was more that I could elaborate on but basically it was just
one of those awesome end of season type days that we all love and wish could
go on for ever. The sad thing is I have never seen so much skiing
disappear in one day like it did today. The long range weather info looks
like a steady deterioration over the next week at least. One year ago
tomorrow Greg and I were at Hickory waiting for them to dig out the lifts
and base lodge and get up and running. AFAIK they didn't even open this
season. We say it all the time, what a difference a day can make. That
goes for a year too and it goes both ways.
Jimski
