Why am I not sick today?

This system was and continues to be a good producer of snow: totals are adding up to 16-18” in the last 24 hours in the Cottonwoods, with about a foot in the Provo mountains. The Park City and Ogden mountains picked up 4” and 8”, respectively, and it's still snowing. Densities shake out to a nice 5-7% but continues to be blown around by the stronger westerly winds. They blew 30-40mph for a few hours prior in the afternoon, paused, but seem to have picked back up in exposed terrain. Temps continue to march northward into the mid to upper teens. Riding conditions continue to be excellent, even in the lower angle terrain.

Dang, I didn't see that one coming!

Unknown to Admin, while Icelantic was living in SLC ten years ago, he designed, built, and activated a series of secret weather sensors placed at strategic points throughout the Wasatch range. To this day, they provide barometric-pressure, solar-radiation, wind-speed, wind-direction, humidity, and temperature readings in real time.

That's how he knows.

Apparently the Omniscient One ought to apply for his buddy Craig's job, for they didn't see it coming either.

We'll see a storm move through Monday with snow showers lingering through Tuesday and Wednesday. Warm air advection should start snowfall Monday followed by northwest flow for Tuesday and Wednesday. Models are showing a half inch to 1 inch of water, so, I'd expect another 6 to 12” event by the time it's done. I'll note that I'm somewhat suspect of warm fronts and decent snowfall.

I’m expecting 8 inches of new snow by Tuesday morning, possibly more in some favored areas.

We apparently need some new forecasters here with Icelantic's "skills."

If it's any consolation, I, too, am sitting in front of a computer today doing job search stuff instead of skiing.
Besides, it's kind of windy (Snowbird has the Mineral Basin lifts, the Tram, and Little Cloud down for wind) and looking at the cams, visibility is nil. Who wants to ski in that? :-k

hey, me being the eternal optomist, especially when it comes to snow and potential snowfall, am always at the ready and when a forecast says 6-12 inches possible, on a mid week day no less, i'm there. it befuddles me that admin would rather sit in hours of traffic getting to his local haunt on a busy saturday where track out happens in a matter of minutes than to grab a potentially great mid week day. as he says though, "there's always tomorrow" well tomorrow may be good or not and i'm pretty sure that today would've been good. to each there own. and craig may not have seen it coming, but i'm sure he was making very good use of his time in the mountains today as i will be out here for the next few.

I saw it coming. 35 of the last 40 days on the hill, guess I see em all coming.

Today was the best yet. Tunneled all the way down silver fox three times in a row. Freaking nuts. Had to stop every half dozen turns to take a breath, unreal.

Would have taken pictures, but it would have just looked like open slopes with no skiers, that's how deep it was.

Reread my opening line. Being out of work in this economy is no fun. Had to make not skiing today more palatable somehow.

Had some paperwork and other business to take care of this AM, but managed to get up to Alta by 11:00 AM. From the moment I got out of the car is was puking snow. With the line at Collins, and the poor visibility that made my first run a bit slow, I missed my meet-up at the Watson Shelter. I spent the next 4 hours skiing off the Collins and Wildcat lift. I didn't want to bother with going over to Sugarloaf and fighting the traverse on the way back. With visibility very low, the key was to stay in the trees. At times I was making first tracks in snow that was over my knees. I took a break around 1:30 and hooked up with a local (senior type like me) who is also a ski instructor but not working today. We did some more tree runs, and then he took me through some of his favorite spots just outside of the HO that I hadn't ever skied in two season here. Soft, deep, steep, and short run-outs back to the lift. He also "tuned me up" a bit to make skiing deep powder easier and smoother. I left just a few minutes too late (Had to buy the guy a drink!) and got stuck on the By-pass Road for over an hour when they closed the road above gate B for Avi control. That beer sure worked on the old bladder! Elapsed time from starting my car when I dug it out and changed out of my boots to hitting the McD's (First John I spotted) on 9400 was 1 hour 47 minutes! It was worth it for the turns in the powder today. BTW, it wasn't as cold as yesterday either. All in all, it was a great day #26

Sorry Marc, but I'm a bad mood that I cannot go skiing without any pain. I would love to go skiing in a sand storm right now and if it would mean an end to my back pains. :(

PS. Good luck in the job search. For some reason I thought you were like me last year, searching, but still employed?

Am I actually working from home today. :P

Storm outside, couldn't see myself walking the 3km to work this morning with my back injury and then tonight ...and hoping to ....

I'm seriously considering testing the back for outing #4 of this season tonight (at this rate i'll finish my season with 12 days). It's also our first Masters' race tonight - it might be easing to put the speedsuit at home.
