Looks like only that local from June Lake was expecting a huge winter, and his source didn't check out. Most of the real experts weren't expecting above normal precipitation, per that article.

Yes but no one had any inkling of what actually did happen, either. Not even remotely close. Come to think of it, it was the same last year. Now, it may be that winters like this one and last (tail-ends of the distribution) are much harder to predict. But I will consider the prognosis come next autumn, for-entertainment-purposes-only.
 
That was a completely ignorant prediction. Mammoth's average is 365 inches. Last year's record was 179%. 1000 inches would be 273%. Portillo is the only ski area with a 200+ inch average that I have ever found to have a 200+% season. Mt. Baker and Mt. Rainier, which average well over 600 inches, are the only places that have ever reached 1000.
