GREAT skiing at The 'Cat on Friday! looks like The 'Cat did not get the same quality Powder that Bretton Woods and Cannon got Wednesday. probably most of the loose powder got blown around/off the mountain on Thursday (when I was originally planning on going, but opted not to cause of severe winds). all that said, the snow at The 'Cat was good, but not much powder left to be found. although there were a few patches on some less travelled by un-groomed blue squares.

by noon time, all groomed trails featured a soft and wonderful packed powder. some scraping occured on the steeper blacks (lynx lair, upper wildcat, middle catapult), but grooming and warmer temps will probably fix that up. non-groomed blue squares were EXCELLENT! most are found mid-mountain, under or to the left of the quad (as seen facing the mountain). Catenary, Panther, Cougar, Hainsville Pass, and Lynx Connection were all Blue Squares with some natural snow bite. lovely.

not much for bumps in quantity, but quality was great. Lower Catenary (my fav bump spot on the mountain) didn't have much, but they are developing. Upper Wildcat has big and steep bumps just under the Cat Cut-Off. and under the quad, Panther had some nice and small soft bumps, bigger and harder in The Chutes. Upper sections of Catenary developing bumps, should be great by the end of this weekend.

unfortunately, The 'Cat's toughest still don't have enough snow... even for pouchers! Top Cat, Lift Lion, Black Cat, Starr Line, and Al's Folly are all closed or only open for small sections.

there's a solid base at The 'Cat, and i'd expect decent conditions to continue through March. with $15 mid-day sunday tickets as part of March Madness, The 'Cat might be the place to be for great Spring Skiing this year in NH!

Full Report and VERY nice pictures of Big George at my web page:
http://www.stormloader.com/theway/pictures/wildcat2002.htm

thanks!

for those curious, equipment included a Kodak DX3600 Digital Camera and MGI's PhotoVista for stitching various amounts of pictures.

Same one I have except I think its a DX3400. Takes excellent pix for a digital-- still can't match an above average film camera though. But for convenience you can't beat digital. Keep posting- the Whites are one of my favorite areas but being from Ohio I only get there every three years or so.
