I figured that the brunt of this "storm" (boy are we desperate - 6" would not have been even noticed last year) would hit around The
Presidentials and whaddya' know, 5-6" fell at the top of the crotch. Yeah, dudes, break out the Phats!! I was first in line on the Tomcat Triple. Yes, most of the trails and lifts have cat themes, though there is no trail named Puss - oops, I forgot that this is a multi-gender audience so I won't go there.
There was only 1 way down plus the Snowcat (it's a scaled down version of Killington's Bloodshed). I had a good time, though.
There was some fluff on top of brutally groomed ironclad sludge and some great powder on the sides that escaped the ravages of the evil groomer. The groomer also left some death cookies and larger death "loafs" on the side which meant you had to be alert as you aimed for the candy, not to mention water bars. Contrary to
forecasts of wet snow, the powder was actually relatively dry.
After a while, the powder became chowder and the groomed parts became scratchy, except for a patch at the bottom where Cheetah merged with Snowcat where I was able to spoon 'em, run after run.
I did laps until the bitter end - gotta' get the most out of my $30 day ticket (gee, Stowe charged that much for an afternoon the prior weekend) but even more importantly, get my ski legs back in
shape. Yeah, I even got my powder legs back as I made many of my own tracks.
Like I said, I did indeed have a lotta' fun - nice powder, a dearth of crowds, an earthy feek to the place, fantastic views and the conifers that line much of the terrain all made for a nice day.

Hi, I'm considering coming up to Wildcat for the MLK holiday. If you go up there again, please keep me updated re: the conditions. Thanks. By the way, is there absolutely NOTHING to do around there re: apres-ski? What about in Gorham?

Thanks.

FYI, no après-ski at Wildcat at all. No lodging, no condos ... nothing. Gorham? Very quiet. For any activity you'll have to go down to North Conway (where you'll likely be lodging, anyway).

The nice thing about Gorham is the cheap lodging. North Conway is more $$$ but there is way more to do.

Marc,

I think my club is staying at a hostel (yikes!) right near the mountain. Their big selling point is that there will be a "contra-dance",
(I think that's like square dancing- though I'm not sure) and ice-skating in "town". zzz-zzz.
