what a crazy season it's been up here. after suffering through flood and drought in january and february, the snow has finally arrived.
at the beginning of march we had a 80-100cm base and a total cumulative snowfall of 300cm. we now have a 250cm base and snowfall over 500cm. and it hasn't stopped puking. looks like we're in for another 50-60cm through the weekend. what is going on??
this week the snow conditions have been truly fantastic. i've been out here for almost two full seasons plus a previous trip, and the quality of snow right now is better than i've experienced. light dry snow in the alpine, and a good solid base in the middle third. snow is non-existent in the valley, but all that means is a little longer getting down at the end of the day.
a friend and i rode flute yesterday and i've never been in such deep soft snow before. like floating on air. the snow was crotch deep where we dropped in.
temps are supposed to spike tomorrow, bringing wet heavy to the alpine, but it's going to cool off again and continue to dump through the weekend. should be another few days of epic riding coming up.
well, we've been suffering all season watching cali and utah get pounded and NOW IT'S OUR TURN!!!! BRING IT ON!!!
