Nice! Here in SLC we'll be on the warm edge of that storm. :-( Never mind the fact that at 9:30 at night it's 65 degrees on a bench above the east side of the city, we still started the season's first fire in the upstairs fireplace tonight, just to get into the mood.

In the mood for what :?: :?: :?:

I just couldn't resist, that one was pitched right in the middle of home plate.

Ah yes, on a more serious note. Do rental cars rented in Bozeman have winter tires or do they provide chains? :D

And it was gently pitched underhand, too.

Most car rental contracts actually prohibit the use of chains. A few years back my buddy and I were the luckiest skiers to visit Montana, for Enterprise in Bozeman gave us a Subaru Forester AWD wagon for our multi-state ski odyssey.

Most rental car companies have 4WD vehicles with all season tires available. None of the roads to the resorts are that bad, though. Between Bozeman and the three main local resorts there are no passes to go over. Even FWD with good tires will easily get you to the resorts in most weather.

I was thinking from Bozeman to Jackson. Are chains required on these road? Notice they had signed up along the roads California/Nevada last June. I know in that the French Alps, chains are mandatory under certain conditions.

I have driven up the Fortress route (Alberta) in a snow storm with a Malibu, made it to the parking lot, but it wasn't easy.

Driving back from Sunday River (Maine) on May 1st after 6 inches of wet snow, no plows and the rare pick-up truck (didn't see any cars) had already there summer tires on. 20-30 mph max on a few hours.

Patrick,
4wd to meet your needs on this upcoming trip. the road to big sky, from bozeman is sketch-ball city in a snowstorm and semi-trucks all over the place. road to Bridger can also be a blanket of "packed powder". my street doesn't get plowed for 3 or 4 days after a storm. from BS to JH.....well, you know.......long, can be slow moving, but scenic none-the-less. over teton pass, 4wd will most likely be needed, but not necessarily chains. JH to utah, sorry, don't remember driving that 5yrs ago.

lots of suburbans, blazers, and subaru's. i'd let them know you'll need 4wd now. i would also assume that the rental cars around here are either equiped with good all season tires or winter tires.
