Yosemite 6/20/05

Yosemite was also unseasonably cool. This made for a somewhat uncomfortable sleep in unheated Curry Village at 45 degrees. But hiking was very pleasant with high temperature of only 79 on the valley floor at 3,900 feet.

After an hour at the visitor center Andrew and I headed up the Mist Trail at 11AM. I knew from my 1986 trip and Patrick's report that we would get drenched, so I chose the warmest part of the day for this hike of about 1,200 vertical in less than 2 miles. In late afternoon we visited the Mariposa Grove of Sequoia trees.

here are photos of the falls to show the contrast of water levels in late summer

I'll try to make this short.
I had a girlfriend, a VERY blonde, blonde. She bought me a book she thought was about bugs, which I wouldn't have cared about in the least. It was suposed to be about these little mites. Yose -mites to be exact. Her "blondeness" led to me getting a really cool book about Yosemite National Park.
Oh well, I never dated her for her knowledge of fine backcountry adventures or cutting edge political views anyway .
Nice pics and report, Tony! Thanks!

OMG, appskiah!!!

Your pictures of the falls are so totally different from mine from June 14. Once I have the time, I will finish the reports (ski and Yosemite) and will try to post a few pics.

My son Adam and girlfriend Aislinn hiked via the Mist Trail to Half Dome on July 1. The spray on the Mist Trail by Vernal Falls is dependent upon wind as well as volume of water. They got totally soaked on the way up about 9AM but only misted on the way down about 7PM.

That's really remember how windy it was. As I mentioned above, I will post a few pics, it's a hard choice. I have about 450 pics, trying to limit and scan them is not a easy task.
