I live in Leavenworth now, and Mission Ridge is about 40 minutes SE of me near Wenatchee, WA. The dozens of fires in this area were started by lightning a couple weeks ago. The fire is indeed threatening the ski area. While the article below from yesterday is optimistic, I got some firsthand reports this morning that some spotting has occurred at the top of chair 2 and in a few other parts of the permitted area. One of the fires near this area had a major blow up on Wednesday, with a 42,000 ft pyrocumulus cloud that sent spotting several miles away. They turned on the snowguns to put some water on areas that are the biggest concern. Unfortunately, there is no significant rain in sight (we've had basically no rain in over 2 months), and there is even a chance for dry thunderstorms again tomorrow.
