Utah February 2025

I'll try to post a few photos and comments in this thread over the next month to give any interested folks a little first hand scoop on how things are going in UT this February. If anyone else is skiing Utah this month and wants to add to the thread, feel free!

Feb 1, I skied Solitude on Feb 1 and it was a pretty good little powder day, perhaps 6" new for the half day I skied.
It was a Saturday and I drove up BCC in the morning with a friend around 745 AM. It took close to an hour to get through the traffic light beside 7-11 at mouth of the Canyon. Ugh. Once past the light the traffic flowed fine?!? I'm told LCC traffic wasn't as bad on same morning. The slow down might have been partially due to cops I saw standing at the intersection. Maybe they were checking for snow tires/chains, not sure? I have snow tires so they didn't stop or talk to me.
Skiing was good at Soli although upper mtn was closed for all or part of the day. I spent the majority of my time on the little old Sunrise chair at lookers left edge of lower trail layout, both these photos from Sunrise terrain.

I heard Feb 2 was pretty good too, but with poor vis, I did not ski Feb 2-4. The 3rd and 4th were close to 70 degs in the valley and above 50 at Snowbird. The snow got fried and I heard it skied like glue.

Feb 5, I skied 9-noon this day. Seasonal temps today. Groomers were quite firm although Chips had some decent sugary snow surfaces. Much of the offpiste was coral reef, but there was good wind drift snow in the vicinity of Silver Fox. Temps were around 35-40 degs and somewhat windy. I think it got sunnier after I left. No traffic, easy free parking. Hopefully 4-8 inches new snow coming over next 48 hrs.

This is a view from Silver Fox area in Peruvian Gulch. Peruvian chair to right.

On the 4th I was at PC. Total shitshow at the canyons with the obx down for wind.
Took the bus to pc side...much better.
Spring conditions which turned to glue in the sun. Around noon the sun dissapeared..temps dropped...and it got a little better.
Pretty crowded for a tuesday.

A friend and I Skied in 9" of graupel today 7 Feb at Snowbird. Weird stuff, but fun in a surfy sort of way. Avalanche on the Defiance/Tiger tail side of the mtn shut everything down at 3pm.

As of 830 am on Sat 2/15/2025 Snowbird has received 34" in the last 48 hrs. Believe biggest storm of the season. 2-5" more expected every day for the next week! Major delays getting up Rt 210 to Snowbird both Friday and today. 210 closed today until approx 930am. Interlodge imposed sometime last night but ended approx 830am today at the Bird. Could be a few hours of exceptional country club skiing this morning for folks staying up in LCC.

I skied Thursday at Solitude. But now I'm sick. Believe I caught a bug mingling with the crowds in Las Vegas last week. The last few years the Sat and Sun of Prez Weekend have been relatively quiet at Snowbird due to being Ikon base pass blackout days. Sorry to miss it, But I have a good attitude. I hope to collect a lot of post holiday snow-scraps a few days from now. :icon-rolleyes:

My son has some friends from the East visiting for this storm. They are probably skiing the deepest snow of their lives, but also sitting in the car for hours each day. It's almost better to have a snow event like this occur a couple days before you visit Utah, not during your visit because of the disruptions it causes.

Snowbasin reported 16 inches new Saturday. That's not chopped liver. I'm sure it's busy, but at least you wouldn't be
Quote from somebody who was at Snowbasin yesterday 2/14/2025: Fridays have been extra busy but today was ridiculous. Might be the busiest I’ve ever seen it!
Quote from a second person at Snowbasin 2/14: Some of the heaviest snow I have ever skied today. Even the rainy days earlier this winter were somehow better.

Moral of the story: every place has its pros and cons:)

Heavy winds closed the gondi and obx fir several hours...my lesson cancelled..so i go skiing for a few hours. Afternoon lesson cancelled..but now Im not allowed to ski in uniform the rest of the day.
Skied pretty much alone as most of the crowd went to pc side.
Guess ill see what tomorrow brings.
Figures the biggest storm of the season lands on this friggin holiday.

Back in the 00s, every day at Snowbasin was great. Ask Bobby Danger!

The mega pass killed the experience, even the conditions. :icon-wink:

Snowbasin was incredible after the Olympics: 3 new big vertical HS lifts, a tram, new lodges, and food! And no crowds for almost a decade.
