Utah February 2025

I had an amazing powder day in 2009 at Snowbaisn. Lifts and lodges are amazing and the terrain is really good.

I’m currently in Sun Valley which clearly feels at lot like Snowbasin. No crowds or liftlines and soft snow, we did well for the holiday weekend.

Gee, I went to Las Vegas for Super Bowl Weekend and all I came home with was the flu (pretty sure that's what it was, I tested neg for covid). It's cut into my skiing over the last week. Not much to post in this thread.

I skied with this bunch at Solitude on Feb 13, unknowing that I was coming down with a bug. Later that day I grilled them all steaks and we had a nice "last supper". Eventually, everyone in the photo got the flu:sick: They are all good friends, hope that's still true the next time I see them?

Finally feeling better, yesterday I skied at Snowbird while a big mtn comp was being held beside Middle Chips Run. This is a lady (photo center) shooting a gap through an area called Thanks for the Memories.

24 Feb 2025, quiet Monday one week after Presidents Day. About four days removed from last fresh snow, nice sunshine, mild temps around 40 degs F. (Snowbird got 5+ feet between Feb 14-21.) Left Cottonwood Hgts at 8:43am. Arrived Snowbird Entry 4 (Bypass Rd) 9:05am (five minutes slower than optimum). Booted up at free, unreserved slopeside parking spot on Bypass road, 50' from cat track leading downhill to Peruvian chair. Empty, free ski-in/ski-out spots around me. This is the way a Monday is supposed to be :icon-lol:

Skied Mineral Basin for about two hours this morning. Mostly stuck to the groom. Fine, edgeable surfaces. Nice place to be in bright sun and low crowds. Eventually a moderate lift line built and I went back to the frontside of the mountain, skiing briefly in the Little Cloud and Peruvian areas with light trail traffic. Left the ski area at 11:30. Back home by 11:51am. The mountain is my gym :icon-wink:

No new snow predicted until monday.
Ide say thats a dry spell.
And yeah..groomers not my thing..
You firget i spent 30 years on the east coast skiing some of the worst conditions on earth..
Anyone from the east...not a princess..
Need a new right knee now because of it.

I would be surprised if ungroomed expert skiing in LCC is still not excellent. I’ve often had quality steep skiing at Mammoth weeks after the last snow. This is why I harp on snow preservation so much. You can’t expect fresh powder more than 15-20% of the time even in the snowiest places like Alta.

We all went to alta saturday...anything not groomed was mank. One of the group blew his back out..we were pretty much done by noon.
Ill be at Brighton tomorrow..we shall see.
What has amazed me is that it has snowed just about every weekend this winter.
Im actualy fine with taking a few days break after skiing 10 days in a row...

I guy told me yesterday on a lift at Snowbird that it had snowed seven Fridays in a row until no snow on Friday, Feb 21.

Yup.
Now its nothing till monday..then snow all week.
Im sure lcc will get hit hardest...and im stuck at pc that week. But ill take it.
Brighton was scratchy today..never warmed up.
Did get to slide around off the great eedtern lift..never been there...that looks like the place to go on a pow day.

Alta groomer zoomers today...warm but not warm enough to soften up anything not in the sun.
Did you run into Alta's power failure? I was going to go to Brighton, but decided Mineral Basin and more variety of exposures at Alta and Snowbird would be better and I have 7 Altabird days and will only use 4 in two weeks plus my phone said it was five minutes closer so I parked on Bypass Road, loaded Peruvian about 9:10. I went through tunnel and got three laps on Mineral Basin before crowds drove me to Baldy. I skied steep groomer White Diamonds once then came down off the Bookends Traverse into face before Bookends Gully twice. After skiing Baldy groomers twice I went to Alta, stopping for a coffee and to eat my orange at Baldy Brews by Collins mid-station. Collins had a long singles line that eventually moved fast, but next time down I saw Collins had long stoppage and I went to Wildcat which also was stopped. Wildcat re-started after a few minutes on diesel motor while it took longer for Collins to move again using generator that is above the mid-station. I skied Wildcat once, then next time up I returned to Snowbird using Blackjack/Westward Ho. I skied a couple of laps on Peruvian finding tough firm bumps on Lower Primrose Path. I went to my car for some jerky, other snacks and to get a full water. After break I rode the new Wilbere chair, skiing Wilbere Ridge. Then I went up Gadzoom, then rode Little Cloud 3x, skiing main run first where groomers had made some chunks, but not as bad as previous day at Palisades.

Sign at bottom of Little Cloud says Mineral Basin and Alta Connect closed.

Then I skied early steeper groomed entry to Mark Malou and cut across to catch some of the Rasta Chutes. My last run was out Cirque Traverse to Barry Barry Steep where I stopped to take some photos and caught guy blasting down it.
