It's 66 degrees here in Connecticut right now. I think Woodbury is out of the running.

    Powder Ridge Improvements?

Used to ski there when I was in high school on Friday and saturday nights. Best thing about it was they were open until 3AM and there was a bar right at the bottom of the hill. There's not a lot they could do to change the terrain I think.

    Opening day "contest"

I've never been to Smuggs, but they really seem to market themselves to upscale families. Lots of kids programs, lots of amenities. I have no idea how good or challenging the skiing is there. We looked into going to Smuggs for a week a couple of years back and it was very pricey.
...

    IT'S NOT ABOUT THE MONEY!!!!!

    Kevin,

I first skied Mohawk over 30 years ago. Skied and boarded there 3&1/2 days last season. Boarding makes the trails a whole lot more challenging! We're about 1:15 away, straight down Route 7. I take my son there and we almost always run into someone we know from our town. It...

    IT'S NOT ABOUT THE MONEY!!!!!

Joe, I feel your anger. Not sure if you can blame Les or not. When I met him the industry was all about groomed slopes, safe for the family and all that crap. Les was a guy who understood that the appeal, especially to kids, is the thrill. Maybe he lost that vision, I don't know. What I do...

    IT'S NOT ABOUT THE MONEY!!!!!

I met Les Otten once, pre ASC days when he had turned Sunday River into a huge success. He seemed like a good guy and really got what the sport is all about. I wonder if he regrets all the growth and mega resort building. The only shares of a ski area I ever considered were Mad River's, but...

    IT'S NOT ABOUT THE MONEY!!!!!

It ain't cheap building huge lodges and large, fancy hotels up in the mountains either. I'm curious, have any of you guys actually bought any ASC stock?

    IT'S NOT ABOUT THE MONEY!!!!!

I made it up to Sugarloaf only once for 3-days of excellent spring skiing. Same for Sunday River; I was there for 3-days in midwinter and we we're lucky enough to get 10" of fluff on the second day. I definately prefer the vertical drop and the snowfields of Sugarloaf. Both are just really...

    Apologies to Anon

Frankontour has me right. The anonymous referred to here is not me. While I do ski at the big K every once in a while, it is not one of my favorites. The size and terrain are great, but the crowds and the hype turn me off.

    Bump vs speed con't

I also admire Scotty Brooksbank, but let us keep this little debate raging. One guy I shared a ride from Gunnison to Crested Butte is a former racer named Scott Schmidt. I think he can ski anything he wants to. Also got to watch Bode Miller, Chad Fleischer and a few others skiing at a...

    Bump vs speed con't

As I said before, I am not a racer, but if you guys think It's all about gliding and that bump skiers are better all around... then you're just plain wrong. Try tucking a DH course at speed. Try making sharp GS gates on a steep rock-hard FIS course. Not easy. Now try to do it and carry some...

    Planned opening days

You guys are scraring me. I thought I was a die -hard skier, but I never kept track of any of the actual dates I've skied.

    Planned opening days

Joe, Moguls are a specialized discipline and, while I agree they are extremely difficult to master to the point of smoothly skiing the zipper-line, I would no way say that bump skiers are the best on the mountain. One time I saw the U.S. Ski team out freeskiing through a mogul field, carving...

    Planned opening days

Allright guys I'm taking a big step here and abandoning my anonymous status. My given name is Marc, so I'm not going to use that as Marc Guido often chimes in here. I've grown kind of fond of anonymous so from here on out I will call myself Anon.

I completely agree that there are so...
