Sherburne Ski Trail

I'm currently taking French in school, and was pleased to find that, although I can't understand nearly every word or sentence, I can pick out the meaning of it pretty well. I think I'm going to lurk around the site to keep up with skiing & build my French skills at the same time. Maybe some...

    Cannon Mt., NH - 01/24/04

You said "tramline looks OK"... Does that mean margainally skiable???

    Moonlight feels right.

Gunstock actually has quite nice night skiing (I was just up there tonight actually). They claim the biggest night skiing operation in NH, and from what I've seen, they're probably right. For those who know the mountain, they've got:

Tiger, Ramrod & Pistol lifts open for night skiing...

    Conditions

Ski area snow reports are over-blown. That's a fact of life. That's why it's so valuable to report TRs, for both resorts & especially BC. Even if you don't want everyone to know about your secret BC stash, you could just state the general area (say around Lafayette, or around Washington), and...

    Storm of the 27th / 28th

NOTHING in Laconia (Lakes Region) NH...

I'm sad

We definitely got spoiled with that early season snow... (I just wish the rain hadn't come after that!)

    Wildcat, nh: 01.18.04

"if that was the best conditions of the season so far... i feel bad for their season pass holders. i've skied over a foot of fresh twice this season. i guess wildcat didn't get those dumps, heh."

Not sure WHERE they get that from... They got somewhere between 50-60" with that first...

    Cannon question

One other thing you can do is skin back up Tucker Brook trail; I've done that once or twice. Only problem is that, yes, it is pretty steep.

    Lousy Xmas

Pray for snow. Please, Please, Please. No rain. I want snow. Give me snow.

Please

It better be snow....

    Slush slide at Wildcat

That's pretty crazy, I've never heard of an avalanche (or something resembling one) at Wildcat before!

    Cannon 12/7 - WOW!

I went up to Cannon today, and had what was (with about 5 colorado & 1 Utah trip under my belt) quite literally THE BEST SKI DAY I HAVE EVER HAD!!!!!!!!

Cannon had 24-ish inches when I got there about 8:45. Snowing HEAVILY. The Peabody quad was running, and some little lift. Trails: 6...

Highland Center at Crawford Notch rant

I haven't thru-hiked yet (hoping for summer of 2006!), but I've done fairly substantial hikes through the Whites, and I try to avoid the huts. I camp out in the woods, in a tent, cook all of my own food. I may sometimes re-fill water at them, but I still have a filter.

I'm sure that a...

Highland Center at Crawford Notch rant

Welcome to the high-priced, yuppie-catered world of the AMC...

I can't stand the huts...
$60 person/night is WAY too much in my book

    Cog Railway Ski Train

Lftgly- Sounds like a great trip! I hope to do more Mt. Washington skiing this year...I'm planning on taking an AMC avy course in late Febuary, and have a friend that has beacons, probes, and shovels, so hopefully I'll be able to ski with him. It looks like a great trip!

    Cog Railway Ski Train

The problem with using the cog for a staging area for Tucks is, as others have said, the idea that a yahoo who's just gone out & read a ski magazine article is now up in Tucks. And he/she is left with NO choice but to ski it from above the headwall, regardless of the conditions in the bowl...

    Cog Railway Ski Train

I don't think it's a good idea, BUT, it's not that big of a deal. Fourtanetly, they've decided (according to the article in the Concord Monitor) to only run the cog to the first water tank at 3800'. Skiers will be allowed to ski down on the groomed clear area on the sides of the cog. So we won't...

    Bretton Woods No Bull

NHPH- Didn't see you up there... I got up around 1:30 pm (in the parking lot), so I probably missed you. It started snowing pretty good later in the day, and there was actually a thin layer of powder over the snow, which was very nice. I noticed a few icy patches as well, but overall, I thought...

    Bretton Woods 11/9/03

That picture is High Country at WV. It's only the top couple hundred feet. Typically WV doesn't open top-bottom for at least a week past their initial opening date. Occassionally they're top to bottom on OD, but fairly rare.

NHpowderhound- I'm headed up to Bretton Woods again tommorow...

    Bretton Woods 11/9/03

"I hope they will open soon... although once they open, the conditions become quite icy and it's lot more crowded ;) "

True. I actually like it just as much this way; very few people, the only others are also diehards like myself...

The skiing really isn't bad either; no ice...

    Kmart opens tommorrow 11/10

I might make it up there on Tuesday, but I can't count on it. It's actually probably more likely that I'll hit Bretton Woods; it's free to skin up...

A much shorter drive for me as well (well, 1.25 compared to 2.25-2.5 ish)
