Ben...great trip report. If only I could find a ride from the UVM campus in Burlington to Killington tomorrow....

-Scott

Super great report, Ben !
the pics are incredibly nice !
I hope they will open soon... although once they open, the conditions become quite icy and it's lot more crowded ;)

"I hope they will open soon... although once they open, the conditions become quite icy and it's lot more crowded ;) "

True. I actually like it just as much this way; very few people, the only others are also diehards like myself...

The skiing really isn't bad either; no ice at all, and although one or two barespots, it's actually a very sweet run!

(and it's probably more interesting when it's not groomed ) It's fun with the "snowmaking powder", but it freezes instantly, when they groom it

I skied 80% of the time yesterday out of the groomed tracks on the trail yesterday, cause it was too icy (except may be the lower 70... don't know, we were always skiing beside the groomed area)

Headed to B Woods tomorrow morning for a hike and ski extravaganza.I'm hoping for a little snowmaking fluff myself.
My theory on the icy conditions that come from manmade snow is first,it has more water in it and second,it acts much like snow in an avalanche,ie;the friction from the groomer temporarily melts the snow then it freezes and sets up as ice or hardpack.More so underneath the first inch or two 'cause the tiller from the back of the Bombadier will loosen the top.I may be way off on this but it's my theory and i'm sticking with it till I hear something better.
I wish I had a digital camera to post some pics for you FTOers.Maybey i'll get one for Jesus' birthday party.
((*
*))NHPH

hey guys,
check out attitash, ragged, but if you want to hike and ski tommarow check out Water Ville Valley http://www.waterville.com/winter/welcome.html looks like they have made a lot of snow, don't want to change your mind about BW but waterville looks pretty good.
porter

The pack is ready to go and i'm watching Wild World of Winter on NESN!Ironically they just did a piece on Bretton Woods.I want Asia McGribby for my bride!
((*
*))NHPH

That picture is High Country at WV. It's only the top couple hundred feet. Typically WV doesn't open top-bottom for at least a week past their initial opening date. Occassionally they're top to bottom on OD, but fairly rare.

NHpowderhound- I'm headed up to Bretton Woods again tommorow! I'm going with a friend, probably get up there around 12-1... then make 2-3 runs, just hiking, no skinning this time (friend is on a snowboard, so it would work better if we both hike).

Maybe I'll see you up there!

I should be up there about the same time.I'll be hiking as well, maybey snowshoes.I'll be wearing a green Lowe pack with red Atomics reaching for the sky.Give me a hollar if ya see me and i'll do likewise.
((*
*))NHPH
