3 days in SLC, where to ski/snowboard

The back side off that tram looks sweet. Have any of you skied back there?

You mean the back side from Strawberry Tram facing Ogden and the lake?

Glad you had a good time at Snowbasin. And it's nice to hear about what you ended up doing.

Evren,

I was referring to the back side behind the men's start house. Unfortunately I couldn't see down below due to the inversion, so I'm not sure what was on the horizon.

The slope wasn't super steep and the snow looked perfect. Two guys that I rode up with went down there without hesitation. Since it's out of bounds and I wasn't equipped I chose not to follow. Neither of them had gear with them, so I suspect that they made a few turns then looped around to the area around the ladies downhill start, but I don't know for sure.

The backside near Strawberry looked good too. Have you skied out there?

Bob

There are cliffs and several active slide zones that have claimed victims in the past. It's also a notorious area for folks spending an unplanned night outside. It's not an area to be taken lightly, without avalanche knowledge, or without knowing where you are going.

Yeah, that's probably it: what you describe is the only back side skiing at Snowbasin that I know of. Unless you are okay with ending up in Ogden. There is hiking from top of Mt Allen and from Strawberry that traverses on the back side, to end up on top of front side bowls.
As for danger, the area that I keep seeing come up in avalanche reports is Hell's Canyon beyond No Name, out-of-bounds on the front side. I'd be too scared to ever venture out there.

Jupiter Bowl is most of that type terrain among the Park City group. Deer Valley groomers have better fall lines than PCMR, but that would still be trail skiing. The Daly Chutes would give you a limited amount of what you like. Maybe you should take that 3rd day at Alta and drop your boarder friends for another day at Snowbird.

ANyone that wants to ski PCMR I'd be more then happy to show you around and all the Okemo/Stratton type terrain they have to offer
