There is also the issue, as we are frequently reminded by the Utards, of quality. A-Basin closes Pali by mid-May. Blackcomb doesn't let the public on its glacier until noon when the snow is slop. And Timberline is limited to prepped groomers, race courses and a park.

Meh, by then I don't know that I care so much about super steep pitch. I prefer to have a 90 minute drive over a 5 hour one to go skiing in June or July... AKA anything that's open and close = a win, in my book, by then (and don't ever forget WHY the Basin closes Pali in May either though). Of course I haven't skied past mid-June myself, I mostly have other interests by then anyway.

"Ample evidence" is what I read here from trip reports, as with the easterners.

May skiing at Mammoth, including Memorial weekend, is a mix of groomers and steeps not that different from winter with enough lift accessible terrain (~2,000 acres) to keep one interested for a weekend. Despite timing of sun exposure and sometimes shorter hours my 49 days in May still average 21K vertical. June/July (less terrain and shorter hours) is usually a combination trip of skiing and other attractions of the Sierra.

Hey Mr. "Ample Evidence": precisely how many times have you skied LCC from late April onwards? Inquiring minds would like to know.

So, even though you avoided answering the question directly, I presume that means "zero"? Funny that you bring up the easterners, for how many times have your assumptions been at best misguided or even flat out wrong there too for the same reason?

Be careful about drawing conclusions about things from 500 or more miles away.
