Apologies to Anon

Do you have some informations about the future owners, if that's true ?

I really wonder how this mountain will evolve, now that it's a $$$$ machine.

News of the new owners will follow shortly. However, don't assume right off the bat that the place will become a money machine. Hey, it's in the middle of freakin' nowhere, or as Chromer puts it, "East Podunk". There's flat-out no population base around there, and there's absolutely, positively nothing else in the area to bring someone there. They'll still suffer the geographic curse, no matter who owns it.

Marc, I'd vote to let the anonymous posting continue. I think it's one of several features that gives this BBS an edge over all the others. Anyone lurking who gets inspired can quickly post a thought, without worrying about FTO/NBS collecting personal info. It also occasionally encourages differences of opinion, which makes the reading interesting (of course, joegm is always interesting reading!).

As Kim Jackson's commments confirm, Killington is just another ski area, nothing special anymore. Their choice, and I'll miss the early season ritual of driving to Killington before my local area(s) open (and being driven up the mountain in the back of a pickup truck).

By the time Kmart has "top-to-bottom sustained", any number of ski areas may be running lifts, including several much closer to me.

I expect it won't be long before we see the other end of their season shorten. What once set them apart (and above?) the other New England ski areas is history now.

Kmart got as much free publicity on FTO/NBS for NOT opening this month as they used to get for being FIRST to open. I've got better things to read and write about.

A few years ago, who would have thought Tenney and Bretton Woods would be stealing the spotlight? Let's support Dan Egan, Wayne Presby, and anyone else who operates a ski area that is still interested in die-hard skiers.

It's within 1h15 of close to 1 million of persons, Marc !! it not so much lost in the woods.

I would like to see how much skiers they got this year. I think they got about 40K skiers in 2000-01. I heard that they got the double in 2001-02 and that it was beginning like to be 4x more in 2002-03. I hope it didn't occur, cause with 320K skiers with one lonely quad, this would be the hell, especially with 3 days of ski by week ! lololol !

Ok, I admit that those stats were certainly not correct and that the 4x surely didn't happen, but there is a huge potential on this mountain. Many people know it now and it scares me a little bit.

I agree with Lftgly

Although, BW and Tenney are probably not the best ski areas for our kind of skiers, but if they're willing to be it, we should support them !

this is amazing. there is actually going to be a race for the first to open in the east!!!

this is one of the best things to happen in new england skiing! before it was always assumed that K would automatically open first. small minor uprisings such as woodbury CT beating K by one day last year then having all their snow melt were fun, but just a cheap PR stunt. tenney, not what was hoped for and not considered by anyone to be the first ski area to open for skiing as we know and love it.

so who's in the hunt??? K will represent all of ASC, so we can automatically rule out all other mountains in the ASC camp. BW fired up their snow guns already, but will have to wait for the warm spell to pass before going full blast. okemo second week of november? a minor dump could open jay up. who's it gonna be???

K, okemo, BW, jay. any others we should be looking at for first opening??? my guess would be lots of resorts might consider pushing back their opening date because of this development. how often can new england ski areas compete with K for first to open in new england???

this is pretty darn exciting!!!

OK, guys, this place is about what you want, so the "Anonymous" tag will stay (even if, I maintain, it means nothing -- we don't collect user data under any circumstances, and only make registration available for those who wish to make it easier to manage their use of the board).

Forgot to mention, no, automated registration isn't possible with this version of the board. I wish that it was.

Yeah, it would be interesting to have one automated registration if it was counting the posts, a little bit like on T4T (I would see that I post too much, sometimes and would slow down a little bit, considering the thousands of posts ! lol)

Somehow, I think it misses few things on this system, but I really prefer it to the one of T4T where we can even not post some pics unless we have them on the web. Also, there is sometimes so much graemlins in the messages that it's rough to understand them ;) lol

I admit that nobody here use all the format possibilities of the actual system, though.

Ish... I hope this is a joke
I almost cried... in my course with the teacher talking, when I saw the name ! lolololol

I guess the K rep at the Ottawa Ski Show was just exagerating about: "We are opening this weekend."

The King is dead, long live a NEW King (hopefully).

As for the early season truck ride, it didn't make sense. At the time, I knew that the removal of the Peak Double for the k1-gondola was a bad thing for the future (That impression started when the focus was move to new Superstar for late season skiing).

I agree with Les, the anonymous thing is a good thing.

Just a weather note: Unless something drastically changes, snowmaking probably can't start anywhere in New England until at least Nov 8-9 unless we get some amazingly dry clear weather leading to severe radiational cooling. It's a simple matter of the freezing levels projected to be higher (far higher) than the mountain summits.

On the up side, the models DO show a good blob of cross-polar air chilling and building during that time period, just waiting for the jet-stream to bulge in the right place and release it all over us.

Let's pray that it comes soon !

But we don't have to worry about this. In 2000, it was really long before some real below freezing temperatures occurred. It was way too hot until november 18, here, if my memory is OK. Both Tremblant and MSS opened on november 20 and all the east got one of the best snow season in the last decade.

So it's really too early to be scared about the ski season, IMO
