Bretton Woods No Bull

Took a drive to B.W. this morning and snowshoed to the top w/skis in my pack.I got there around 10:45 and skies were overcast with the smell of snow in the air.Temps were about 30 degrees and the only snow on the mountain was what they had blown.Tons of whalebacks. The hike up was uneventful. The snow conditions looked as if they had eighther drizzle or fog because the snow was rather firm. Not like hardpcak, more like frozen granular. It wasnt bad mind you, definately worth the hike.I took one fall trying to hop turn in some of the deeper snow when my ski sunk and tracked off, trying to rip me into two pieces.Thank dog for toe release or my season would have been over.Best skiing was to skiers right where the snow wasnt as deep and where most people had decended, away from the whales.I had some real nice linked turns that felt awsome!
Attitash blew snow around the base and up Grandstand last night.
((*
*))NHPH
PS,snowshoes were only necasarry if you wanted to hike on the trail where they blew snow.

NHPH- Didn't see you up there... I got up around 1:30 pm (in the parking lot), so I probably missed you. It started snowing pretty good later in the day, and there was actually a thin layer of powder over the snow, which was very nice. I noticed a few icy patches as well, but overall, I thought the conditions were quite good. I had learned from Sunday to stay on skier's right, so I can't speak for the areas under the guns, but I'd imagine that they would be more frozen up from the warm temperatures.

Anyway, I agree that it was definitely well worth the hike, another great "day" of skiing!

Yeah,I tried to get some turns on the whales but once I pressured the ski it would break through the crust and track off.Skiers right was nice.I diddnt hit any rocks or stumps. It wasnt snowing when I was there but I could feel it coming.Mt. Washington was visible the whole time i was there with a lenticular cloud hovering a couple hundred feet above the summit.
I swung into Ragged Mountain Sports on the way home from BW and visited my true love. The Diamir Frichti Freeride binding. Those things are like Jenna Jameson on skis!Shawing!I WILL own a pair by the first of the year.I'd have them already but I just picked up a new motor for my boat(too good of a deal to pass up).
((*
*))NHPH
