Actually, I didn't realize one could do Crescent --> Pioneer or McConkey. I've always gone on the other side (Silverlode&Thayne). Is it pretty obvious at the top?

No, its not that obvious, and its not all that apparent from the trail map either. When you get off the Crescent lift, go left, pass the viking yurt, and then you'll see signs to mid mountain restaurant, pioneer and mckonkey's. Took me a couple of years after Crescent went in to figure that out.

I also used to think that you couldnt get back to the base area directly from the top of Mckonkey's, and for years rode Pioneer back up to get down, but finally figured out that you can get back to the base directly from the top of McKonkey's.

The trail map sure makes it look like you need to ride Pioneer to get back to the base area, as it appears that Pioneer Ridge separates the entire Mckonkey's area from the rest of the areas. Is there a way to get from the top of McConkey's over to the mid-mountain restaurant? That seems like the only feasible way from just going by the map.

Yes, and while it's drawn on the trail map the Mid-Mountain Cutoff is not actually marked on the map. You can see it in the insert at the top left of the map running from near where Buckeye, Sunrise, Comstock and Hawk Eye all come together, to the Mid-Mountain Restaurant. There's a sign on the hill marking that connector, which you can actually reach from Georgeanna, too. From there you can take Flat Iron to reach Homerun to the base.
