Hi i live in southeastern PA and am just dieing to get some runs in to start out the season. I was thinking about heading up to Hunter or Bellayre this weekend because i think there the closest mountains to me that should be open this weekend. Just wondering if anyones been to either of these areas early season and whether or not it's worth the 4.5 hour drive (according to mapquest). Also any idea of what they charge for the limited terrain would be greatly appreciated too.
Thanks

I would say that Hunter would be more worth the drive than Belleayre. I have skied hunter many times around opening day with Hellgate, 5th aveneue and Lower Broadway being the only trails open, 1600' vertical and a high speed lift is a good bet for early season. I am thinking about going up this sunday 11/16 with my skiing buddy. As of 12:30 Hunter is blowing snow top to bottom again according to the operator, they could not make snow yesterday because of the high winds. The conditions report for today says that they will be open on saturday 11/15 with a 0-36" base with limited grooming. If I go I want to wait until sunday to give snowmaking operations a chance to build up more base and improve conditions to make it worth the 3+ hour drive for me.

Thanks for the info. I really wanna go up but i don't think my parents are gonna let me. 9 hours is a long time to drive by yourself and i'm having a hard time talking any of my friends into going. They don't think it's worth it for suck limited conditions, there obviously not as obsessed as i am. Kevin do you know how many runs they are planning on having open this weekend? Looks like only one on the pics on there site but you mentioned a few others.

Woodi, the 3 Kevin talked is a T2B run from the summit.

Hellgate is the black run from the top.
Broadway is from the bottom of Hellgate to the triple chairlift and 5th avenue is the trail to come back to the bottom of the mountain, but I'm not sure if this one will be open, according to the pics of 2-3 days ago.
