Brrrrr. But it wasn't as bad as the temps would let you think. For the
record, however...-10 in the parking lot on the car thermometer, -22 at
the top of the gondola, -25 at the base of the Straightbrook Quad. The
top of the gondola warmed up to -10 in the sun by the afternoon. There
was a light breeze at time that made it feel absolutely brutal, but when
the wind didn't blow, and you were in the sun, life was good.

The snow was fantastic. Awesome packed powder conditions with the most
snow guns going at Gore that I've ever seen. Chatimac was a little
scratchy, Hawkeye was good, all the Topridge terrain was great, and the
lower mountain was very carvable with almost no ice. Quite a surprise
after the ice skating rink that Gore was last weekend. Probably 6 inches
of snow showers and squalls over the past few days certainly helped the
visual effect as all the trees had that "fresh pow" look to them.

With great crusing conditions, a relatively warm gondola (ie. +15 degrees
inside), 100% sunshine, and excellent views...Gore was happening today and
was well worth it. A quick discussion with my ski partner and a few guys
in the gondola revealed that there really was no where else anyone of us
would've rather been. Today was my birthday and I got to ski Gore in the
sun, on an empty mountain, with a good friend, and I'd do it all over
again if the opportunity presented itself.

The cold is invigorating and makes you feel alive. It was a good day to
be alive.

-Scott
