Heli skiing

Just checked out the price for a day of Heli skiing care of Wasatch Powder Guides......damn!!! I think it around $700.00 last year and now its up to $900.00. This...is a bummer. It's on the bucket list but thats a lot of money for a day, especialy when you guys can show me the goods for the price of a lift ticket. Is it really worth the money any more ?

No, last year it was $900+ in regular season and over $1100 in high season.

It went down?? maybe I checked it a few years ago. I just remember that it was more affordable at the time, except I couldn't afford it!! Now I can but is it really worth it. Hell, you dragged me into some of the best powder I ever skied and ....it didn't cost me a thing!

There are other less costly options. Park City Powdercats runs cat-skiing trips in the western Uintas, east of Park City. I plan to check them out later this month to do a feature story. And the last time I checked, Diamond Peaks heli runs a package with Powder Mountain including a lift ticket and one run (two heli rides) for ~$150 -- they take off from the Hidden Lake summit at Powder Mountain.

I saw that Powder Mountain deal, might be a good way to at least get a ride and a run in one. I'll probably be coming back the 20th for another week....just can't get enough!

This is why I do my cat and heli skiing up here in Canada. Eagle Pass Heli yesterday was $1,000CDN =~ $830US. BUT I got 12 runs and 23,500 vertical.

You'll get 7 runs and about 14K for your $1,100 at Wasatch Powder Guides. The Powder Mt. options are the only ones in Utah with reasonable value for your $ IMHO.

That must have slightly changed since 2 yrs ago . We had one run and one heli ride. Dropped us off next ridge over from James peak and had to ski east face back to resort. We could have skinned up there from the cat drop in about 1/2 hr.

Naturally, that varies depending on snow conditions. Most of the time, though, you ski down the west side of James Peak.
