Here's why I don't ski Colorado

I almost get the sense that Cohee is sandbagging for some reason in that article. His exuberance over the greatness of Colorado rings kind of hollow for a guy who's spent most of his time in the business around Tahoe? Maybe he's got a grass is always greener/whiter fixation? It’s pretty obvious how the non VR mtns are going to compete - by offering more lift pass reciprocity and by shaving the profit line as close as possible. A good number of last minute vacationers might go for a 4 day ticket good at several non VR mtns in close proximity if the difference in the cost of that ticket over an Epic Pass was enough to pay for their airfare.

There are a bunch of us older family oriented ski people that actually find the clean cut image of LDS a draw towards UT and are turned off by the idea that CO ski resorts might start promoting MJ tourism as a feature of their vacation experience.

Otherwise, I agree that it is the multiple resort towns that bring the crowds to CO (and cheaper airfares from the Midwest and East). Most casual ski vacationers don't want to stay in a mundane suburb like Sandy and commute to the good stuff or be interlodged for a week in a dinky facility like the Snowpine Lodge - heavenly as that might seem to a lot of us:-)

The reason skier visits are less is due to Lds,...
Please explain the logic behind that assertion.

A lot of people I've talked to hear UT and think, "the Mormon State with crazy alcohol laws". I'm not looking for an argument on the laws, we've done that before but in my experience its simply a fact that people are turned off by the LDS stigma attached to UT. Thinking about it, I'm pretty sure it's not specifically an LDS thing more so religion in general. I live in Socal so maybe people here are more liberal and less religion focused and prefer to frequent places that they perceive as similar? I also think that the marijuana thing in CO is probably less of a factor going forward as other states loosen laws and people realize they'd rather be around someone stoned than a drunk guy.

Marc-SoCal beat me to it, btw I moved to Utah over Colorado because of what jim said in the previous comment. Lds is a non issue with me.
