From my friend who lives in Jackson Hole

"The area is a bit grim right now. Lots of folks knew the guy who was killed on Saturday. Then the slide yesterday was the icing on the cake. The patrol is doing a great job given the volume of snow we've received. On xmas morning while the patrol was clearing the mountain two patrollers went down in two unrelated injuries. One was a torn acl and the other was severe muscle tears along ones side. Each waited several hours for rescue because of the difficulty getting to them. they finally used snowcats to get to tehm and that was inbounds! One patroller told me that it took two of them 90 minutes to clear Rendevous Bowl when it normally takes 10. The problem is that the snow is sooo deep that you sink down no matter how wide your skiis are and how steep the pitch is. I skiied Saturday near where the death occured and I could barely move down the hill due to volume. The snow conditions are great if you stay steep and careful."
