Major Winter Storm Details

jay wont get that much, it only snowed 6 inches today, thats a far cry from 36" . unless things go off the hook tonight, i highly doubt the marketing report, definately take it with a grain of salt. i think anywhere in the greens will be good tommorrow and all through the weekend. don't let them fool you.

Morning report is 24"-28"

I suppose it's possible they'll pick up another 6" before it's all over. The Jay Cloud will probably be in operation over the weekend too.

Other notable totals: Sunday River is reporting 25"-30" and heavy snow continuing. Sugarloaf reporting 24"-28" with reports of 10' to 15' drifts on the mountain and still snowing.

TeleLobsterGrrrl is on her way to the 'Loaf right now to christen her brand-new pair of Volkl Explosivs.

14"- 18" at the Lobster Shack in the phlatlands north of Bangor. Tough to measure, it was quite windy overnight. Heavy snow continues.

I personally would belive Jay got the two feet they reported. Burke got 18", and that has been confirmed, so Jay getting Burke snowfall + 6" is fairly normal.

I was hoping for a report other than what they post on there site.

Hyrdology report:

1100 AM EST FRI FEB 11 2005
SMUGGLERS NOTCH
JAY PEAK 28 9 9 MDT SNOW 16.0 31

High temp (24 hours) of 28 degrees, low of 9, currently 9.
16.0 of new, 31 on the ground. Far cry from 24"-28", but then again this is measured at the base.

Cromer and zambini: I know Jay tends to exaggerate their snow totals to suit marketing goals, but if they got even half of three feet I will be pumped to ski there this weekend.

They've been talking up this storm big time on the radio. Jay is going to be really crowded tomorrow, but there's plenty of room and conditions should be good for awhile.

Cannon and Wildcat sound like they will be great! Honestly I'd rather go down there if I were closer.

I'm not selflessly endorsing Jay's snow reporting, but bottom line is this weekend is going to be legendary.

Cheers

i have the official snow report for jay over the course of this latest storm, i have been skiing there every day this week since monday, so here is my breakdown

monday: sunny corn snow, down to grass and mud most places with heavy traffic.
Tuesday: lite drizzle most of the day, snow pack totally saturated with temps dropping, no frozen precip all rain
wednesday: nothing , no snow no rain cloudy, foggy all day
thurday: storm begins overnight, maybe 3 to 4 inches , then it snowed all day, with a foot of snow falling from morning till 4. the best runs were my last as conditions improved drastically as the day went on. it was snowing heavily at 5:30 when i left.
friday: snowing in morning which gave way to sun around 11, hard to tell much really fell overnight, everything with a fresh smooth surface, with high winds all night the snow really blew around. first tracks down canam were very deep, deepest of the year with snow over the shoulders on almost every turn( i alpine and am 6 foot tall), the snow that fell overnight was incredibly light. i would have to say a sold 15 to 20 overnight after closing on thursday.
saturday: snowing most of the day with maybe an inch or two of accumulation. not much more, with light snow this evening.

all in all the snow was and is desperately needed with almost nothing underneath it, we will take all we can get. friday was great , but the hype around the storm killed the mountain, which is incapable of handling huge crowds, the place just flounders when the masses show up , i feel bad for all who have to deal with it. it is not the way one is meant to experience this place, it is best when the masses can't be there. otherwise mountains with better facilities are a way better bet, the northern greens all saw copious amounts of snow out of this storm and to be honest i would of rather been at one of those other mountains yesterday and today. Don't get me wrong i love jay , but it is a very small place.

enough about that though, i love powder anywhere and this has been great , first real powder fix of the year and ready for more.
keep the stoke

You and 10,000 of your best friends, most of whom tracked it all out Friday. Give Burke a try sometime. 2/3rds the snow, but 1/10th of the people.

Hey man, whats the big deal? I'm not so selfish that I expect no tracks before mine. It's a bonus to have a line of untracked powder, but when conditions are great I still have a blast!

I've been to Burke and I love it there, but the SDC bus doesn't go there every weekend.

Cheers
