I made the trip out to Mammoth and skied the 10th and the 11th. Conditions then were pretty good. Coverage was actually very good. It was warm out and the bottom softened up by 830-9am and the top was good by 10 or so. By noon the snow got a bit sloppy, but to be honest the fact that chair 23 wasn't running (such a pain to have to get on gondola for runs to the top, every time) we called it a day and drank beer and watched basketball around noon both days. 3 hours of nice skiing was fine with me.
Regarding crowds, it didn't seem like there was anyone in town at all. The village was actually freaky, NO ONE there. Sushi Rei was busy on Sat night, but there wasn't another person to be seen anywhere. We stayed a motel in town and there was only 1 other occupied room.
