Mt. Snow or Okemo?

I've gone to Whiteface several times from Akron- takes about 9-1/2 hours- if you're on the East side of Cleveland- maybe 9hrs?. I go to Syracuse, then north to Watertown, and east to Lake Placid.

Whiteface definitely has some tough stuff but its worth going if you've never been. There are a couple of routes from the top that are intermediate and Little Whiteface has some nice intermediate runs down. I wouldn't go for a week but its definitely a winner for 2-3 days. You can actually do a daytrip to Vermont or Gore Peak NY from there as well just to try something different.

Lake Placid takes a bit more time to get to than southern VT.

There is a lot to do there besides ski, though the skiing has been very good there so far this year. It is a great destination for a family vacation.

While the mountain offers a lot of vertical, it doesn't offer a whole lotta variety. You may find that a half-dozen runs is a full day. It can take a while to get a family down over 3000 vertical feet!!

Take a day and go to the other Olympic venues (bobsled, ski jump, ice rink). An evening skate on the oval is also fun. Bundle up, but don't be afraid of the cold (it doesn't get much above zero in Feb)...just dress in layers. One nice I went skating and it was -6, but I got very warm once I started skating.

Let us know how your vacation turns out.
