Which I have never understood. It's the perfect excuse to stay for another day or two and ski huge powder runs. How often do you get to say you're "snowed in, see you in a couple more days" ? Really, if you can afford to stay up in that canyon, airline change fees or etc.. can't be a major issue either.

I missed the last NWA flight of the day back to Minneapolis 5 or 6 years ago when a huge, wet slide buried the LCC road at Maybird mid-afternoon on a very warm and sunny day in March. The road was closed till after 6 p.m. or so, and then it took forever to get down to SLC in the stop-and-go traffic that resulted from everybody heading out at once. NWA knew all about the avalanche when we called and got us on the first flight out in the morning, no questions asked, no reservation change fee charged. I hope the airlines are still as understanding.

I'm pretty sure I was the first employee at my job (in the Twin Cities) ever to call in late by reason of avalanche. Fortunately, news of the slide made the newswires (amazingly, nobody was hurt) so I had a verifiable alibi.

I got to the "Park-n-Ride" around 10:15 AM. The Sheriff informed me that the road was going to be closed until 11:30 AM. I turned around and went down to Sandy to run some errands. I got back to the Canyon Road about 11:20. This time the road appeared open and I got about two miles up when I ran into the tail end of the cars waiting to head up. Now the word was that the road would open about 12:00. Then they said 12:30. At 12:45 it was still closed and so I bagged it and headed back home. I found out later that they opened the road at 1:00 !!!!!!!!!!!!!! ](*,)

Let's see what tomorrow brings.

Peter, you could've saved yourself the trouble:

I did check and they kept "updating" the opening time.

I'm afraid you're missing my point. On that page is the Sheriff's text message and email alert system -- you could have received the alerts notifying you of the revised opening time as you were buzzing around Sandy running errands.

Theoretically, this is a good solution, however, Tele-Jon said that they are very slow to send out the message. One time he got the message the road was open when he was already at the GMD.

Looks like a big powder day for y'all today. Bring out the snorkels!! It's going to be deep. Have fun.

and yeah, I'm soooooooooooooo jealous. Our storm is turning out to be a bust.

Take photos and videos please!

They had issues at first but are getting better. The system was put into place in a rush at the beginning of the season and I'm willing to cut them some slack until they iron out the wrinkles. Yesterday worked as it should -- for example, I got the 1 pm opening notice at 12:45.

My big powder day will be tomorrow, but it won't be in LCC.

I surely hope it will be at Snowbasin!!!

Next year, my goal is to get to Snowbasin on a powder day.

Words cannot describe the onslaught of snow. With another 1-4” overnight, storm totals since Monday night are 28-32” in the Logan and Ogden area mountains, 24-28” in the Cottonwoods and Provo mountains, and 16-18” in the Park City environs. 6.5 inches of “snow-water-equivalent” at the Ben Lomond snotel site is unbelievable; and human confirmation there is, as always, warranted. Winds are now from the west northwest blowing 18-25mph along the ridgelines with gusts to 35….and less than 15mph in the more sheltered terrain. Temps are in the teens. Riding conditions? Bust out the snorkels and avoid the tree-wells.

Nope, out in the western Uintas.

Silly man...you should save that for after the snow settles and you have a bluebird. Go to Snowbasin and ride the lifts....they got the big dump.

My timing is impeccable, couldn't be better. Just worry about Greek Peak, will ya?

If this is part of Admin's research for his cat-skiing feature, you can't just show up for those (as a guest) unannounced. I'd take this storm and walk away quietly.

Admin's been hinting for the better part of a week on these boards at where he'd be skiing this Thurs (just look at his Park City TR for one example).

And for that matter why so much of this going here the last couple of weeks ?
:sabre fight:
:snowball fight:

Or is it all meant to be less than subtle ribbing of each other? I dunno, just seems like a lot of it lately instead of having as many interesting discussions. That said, I sure hope to see pics from LCC's big dump.
