Opening day "contest"

Welcome here NH_Tele !

Nice to see you here ! I hope you have the "GO" for skiing, now ! Only misses the snow, but it's a question of days, woohoo !!

Tenney : Patrick called them in late september and they told him that they were going to open the midstation around mid-november. We all said that it was ridiculous, cause the other mountains would have been opened for a while, but finally, it looks like it will be in the first ones !

We got our FIRST SNOW !!!!!!!! here today. It began to fall around 9hAM, but now, it's freezing rain all the way... what a sh**ty weather. (we got about 1cm (1/2 inch))

Frankontour-

I'm not sure what's happening at Tenney; haven't been up there for a while.

And yes, X-C season is over, so I'm ready to ski as soon as the snow comes!!!

I saw some video of bretton woods on wed. morning and they still have small patches of snow left from their early season snow making efforts, not enough to ski on, they probably got a dusting of snow or ice on thier trails. Hopefully the patches wont melt totally and they will have a small base to start snow making on. If they can hold these patches i think they will be the first to open in the east. On another note Bode Miller is Bretton Wood's new director of skiing. Very interesting, and they will be naming one of the their twelve new trails after him.
porter

Okemo for the Nov. 13th
Sunday River Nov. 14th
Wildcat Nov. 15th
Stowe Nov. 15th
Killington and Bretton Woods sometime in early nov. with no date specified

Possibly turn the guns on Thursday night, lower elevations will have to shut them off Friday (and maybe even higher elevations as well) but then let those guns roar through Monday. The ski areas need to take advantage of this and go with an all out assult from when temps go below freezing Friday evening till possibly Tuesday morning. Lowest elevations might have to shut the guns off Sunday afternoon and Monday afternoon but only for a brief period of time.

Here's the forcast for the VT Mountains:

Thursday night. Mostly clear. Low in the mid 20s. Calm wind.

Friday. Partly sunny. High 45 to 50.

Friday night. Mostly cloudy with a slight chance of snow showers. Low in the lower 20s. Chance of snow 20 percent.

Saturday. Partly sunny and colder. High near 30.

Saturday night. Mostly clear. Low in the mid teens.

Sunday. Partly cloudy. High in the mid 30s.

Monday. Partly cloudy with a chance of rain or snow showers during the day. Then a chance of snow or rain showers during the night. Low 20 to 25 and high in the upper 30s.

Veterans day. A chance of rain or snow showers in the morning. Otherwise partly cloudy. Low 25 to 30 and high 40 to 45.

-Scott

Interesting for the coming weekend. The ski areas really fast could be able to open with that (may be even Woodbury sunday, if it's in the mid-teen in Vermont during the night). I hope for MSS

Good news for Bode & Bretton Woods ! We have Stéphane Rochon at La Réserve, here, on the same kind of things !

Thanks for the video link, Salida.
Effectively, there is still enough snow remaining. I wonder how it was before all the rain !

The game is almost started now. The 6 next nights will be quite enough cold to make snow, here, so if it drops enough fast tonight and tomorrow night, it's not impossible to see St-Sauveur to open saturday, but it would surprise me. Sunday is now really possible and if they open sunday, I will be there sunday !

Hmmm. It's still looking pretty bare! I'm not sure if Bretton Woods will actually be able to open. However, if they're cranking the guns from tonight (thurs.) through sunday, with maybe a brief break during the day on friday, then come sunday there should be enough snow to hike & ski, even if they're not open. Considering Bretton Woods is only about 1 1/4 hours away for me, I'm probably going to take advantage of that.

On Tenney Frank, they just mentioned hoping to open mid-November (this was in September - things might be different now due to the weather). I am not sure if the mid-station mentioned in Skiing is relevant. It was planned if the snow magic system would work for real skiing by October 1st.

Anyway, I don't expect a lot with Tenney anymore. Snowmagic should sell its product to La Réserve hehe

Let's go MSS let's go !!

I think MSS or Bretton Woods, I think it will be far colder for far longer at Bretton Woods than it will be at Okemo or Killington, and the trail that bretton woods makes on is far easier than that of Okemo and Killington.
Porter

Yeah, this may be a disadvantage for MSS, where both trails are enough steep. The Nordique is over 25 degrees on the last 250' high and the West 70 is over 20 degrees too on the lower part. I hope they will open both the first day... although last year, they only opened the Nordique, opening the West 70 4-5 days later. (but it was 10 days before so the risk was bigger)

Not opening today, Killington is sure to have its worst opening since 1971 !!!!!!!!! ouch !

Noticed another ski area trying to sneak in the backdoor that hasn't been mentioned before. Belleayre in New York plans to open Sunday according to todays update. Yesterday they said they hoped to open saturday so we'll see what happens tommorow but there trying to get in on the race. Quite amazing for a state run mountain.

Yeah, we talked about it on the chat yesterday night, but we rushed to believe it.

I'm really eager to see if they will be able to open and with how much terrain. Ski Brule will open tomorrow... I know this is not really in the east, but you can be sure that they will claim to be the first ski area to open in the east (last year, Wild Mountain in MINNESOTA claimed to be the 1st one in the east ! LOL)

Congratulations to Frank, who has made the best predictions for opening days, being only a day off - while he made the predictions a full 10 days before!

Yeah, I just thought about the "contest", after seeing it with a "blue link".

1 day later for MSS, right on for Woodbury and 1 day later for Killington.

Congrats to NHPH for Killington on the 10th.

And good for Woodi2259 with the 8th or 9th for Woodbury !

I read fastly, sorry if I didn't spot other great predictions... (write it here, if so !)
