Oregon April 2023.

Glad you had an ok time in Portland. It's a shame what the city has become, however. It used to be such a cool town. I like Mt. Hood Meadows during mid-week.
Bend is indeed a great town, but it's gotten SO busy over the last 10-20 yrs. I actually don't care for most of the beer that comes out of there (IPA's)... but usually find something tolerable. I haven't been to McMenamins. Funny, that beer menu you posted actually is the least IPA-centric I think I've ever seen in that town! We're going to be in Bend next week as we have some leftover 4-pack tickets to burn at Bachelor.

Glad you mostly enjoyed your visit!

I have no perspective but I didn’t find it busy at all. Maybe because it’s the shoulder season?

I am a fan of the big hoppy beers. There was a decent selection of stouts and porters which I also like.
I don’t care for the sours.

What happened to it? I'm guessing that it became a PNW version of San Francisco?
It’s been a while since I’ve been to San Fran but downtown Portland makes it look like a Sunday school picnic. A humanitarian disaster. Widespread property crime. Open fentanyl use. Human waste on streets.
It’s nothing like I’ve ever seen.

In Vancouver before flying out. The area around Yaletown is a nice part of the world.

In addition to tolerating a widespread homeless population, Portland chose not to crack down upon the minority criminal element involved in the 2020 police protests.

Whatever is going on there it’s not working unfortunately. For the poor people on the street and the locals and business owners.

Change of plans. My friend couldn’t get care for his adult son who has special needs.
On this. I don’t want it to sound like our NDIS is not working. It’s a fantastic thing that our nation should be proud of and has seen huge positive outcomes for thousands of people with needs or disabilities. In Paul’s case he felt leaving his son in the care of ‘strangers’ for an extended time a bit too much.
