Shefford, QC, march 4 - 20-30" deep powder

I didn't think that there was so much new snow, at Shefford... what a surprise it was to enjoy some powder up to the hips in the glades of the upper part of the mountain.

The lower mountain was really poor in snow, though.

Some guys from ZoneSki have cleared a new mountainside, this summer, and one of the trail require about ½ mile long of walking to reach the beginning of the glade. I think we were the first of the year to go there, as the trail to reach it is completely hidden. At some moments, I had some powder almost to the chest, really incredible. All the top part of the mountain was wonderful... so much snow ! wow !

Just a few pics to show a little bit.

Close to mid-mountain, about knee deep

That is one strong "micro-climate" because Bromont 10min away is reporting 16cm (7-8in) of snow over the week-end... And 40cm (16in) in the past 7 days...

I would love to hear (and see) a report from Jay Peak this weekend... i was out with a really bad cough and couldn't make it up there... They got pounded with that storm... apparently THE storm of the winter... hope there is a couple left within the next week!

These trails haven't been skied so far this year, I think, so the snow in the past 2 weeks has accumulated + the wind is pushing the snow exactly in that direction, so I guess it's why this part of the mountain had the best snow, clearly over 40cm...

Yeah, I'm sure that if Shefford got that much snow, Jay was probably epic last weekend... I guess we should see a few reports here or on ZSK

We know that Powderfreak got some good powder at Stowe. I checked MRG yesterday and they had at one point 10-16" and it's was still snowing. :D

Jay is reporting 28" over the past few days. That post referenced by Jamesdeluxe is from gincognito, who occasionally posts here as well. I've skied with him -- his reporting is reliable.

Did I hear my name?

Sunday was definitely the top day of the season and rivalled many days in the past. Only wish I could have been there Saturday to reap the rewards of a wind-hold day.

Sick and ashamed and happy (and the Jay link reference above keeps growing...so check back every now and then),
d.
