Just checked airfares on all sites. Cheapest was $668.00.......damn.

Tough weekend from NY or LA since it's Sundance. I booked about 2 weeks ago and it was over $300 for me and that's flying out of Long Beach. LAX was $600 plus.

Besides Sundance, you're also inside of the final 7 day window. As an example, traveling in February, departing Friday evening and returning the following (not the immediate next) Sunday, you can do a non-stop EWR - SLC on Delta for $259 (except for the President's week, where the fare jumps to $475).

Frontier had a sale for a few hours only this morning: $39 anywhere they fly on 1/23 (this Saturday), including SLC. Recommend following @FrontierSale on Twitter to catch deals like this.

FYI we met an Altaphile from Connecticut who takes 3 weeklong trips to Utah every year. This season 2 of the 3 RT airfares are ~$200. She is convinced that she spends less on skiing than an equivalent amount of time would cost in Vermont due to cheaper lodging/lift tickets more than offsetting transport costs.

That seems about right, although, if you're like me and have free place to stay near southern vermont, it might not be so true.
