Socal This weekend?

Not sure what I'll be wearing but I'll be in a blue arteryx jacket, black pants, black helmet and volkl gotama's.

I've also seen enough pictures of you that I think I'll be able to spot you.

Crossing my fingers for some "instability" precip overnight.

Just look for the funky dude with the leather side panels on his glasses.

Glasses, yeah, but the jacket? No, that jacket met an untimely (as in "long overdue") demise last season. The funeral pyres burned long into the night as men, women and children wept. A violinist played a thin rendition of "Amazing Grace". R.I.P.

It's a Mountain Hardware jacket now, primarily blue IIRC.

Is anyone considering Mt. Baldy on Saturday? They're saying they got 8-10" today. Not sure how much of that is already skied off, tho.

I've never been to Waterman. I have some old tickets to Baldy that I can use for $20. upgrade. That has me leaning toward Baldy. I may be swayed to change, though. What do you see as advantages of Waterman over Baldy for tomorrow?

I think there will be good skiing at both. The advantage of Waterman is that no one goes to Waterman. Baldy will be a zoo (holiday weekend and powder day) and I'm sure a bit tracked up after today and with the crowds anything left should get skied somewhat quickly. I'm sure there were people at Waterman today but I'd be surprised if the number was more than 100 or so. Also, they weren't open all week so the snow that fell on Monday (I'm sure the owners/patrol have been having a good time up there) should at least provide a good surface for the 6 inches or so that fell today.

I'm sure both will be fun. Looks like it should be a pretty clear day; I'll take some pictures.

waterman reporting 18-24 new champagne powder, i get up between 1030-11. right around the opening of chair three

they need their numbers bad, eh? (Was that cynical?)

Doubtful they even got a foot. Weren't they reporting 6-8 last night? Most snow was about boot deep, at least were we were. Pockets a bit deeper. Fun day. I'll post some pics soon.

Not recommended on powder days, though at Mt. Waterman certainly less costly than most places. socal showed up at the same time ~9AM, met baldyskier not too long thereafter, and added Ben Solish ~11AM. CWHappyRN was also along for this one, but unfortunately skinny skis and summer arthroscopic knee surgery were not a recipe for powder success and she had to stick to the main face runs.

Interesting everyone from FTO (I think) went for Waterman today. Garry Klassen did ski Baldy and reported generally the same high quality snow we had. However Thunder opened at 10AM and chair 4 at 1PM due to the usual ice-on-the-cables issues. Garry and his friend Greg climbed partway up Telegraph peak and skied ~3,500 vertical into Icehouse canyon in the mid-afternoon.

I am getting skeptical that Baldy will be able to run its lifts during the brunt of the next storm Monday. Adam's working all weekend but planning to take Tuesday off.

A big part of why I went to Mt. Waterman is that the 1+ foot from Monday was mostly still there since the area is closed Monday-Thursday. So it rated to ski deeper than Baldy which was open all week. I think this is one of Waterman's potential big attractions for weekend skiers, though 3-day old powder in SoCal is usually rather difficult.
