Storm of the 27th / 28th

Even though I have no basis in fact on this topic, I have the general feeling that this low is going to move farther north than predicted. The reason that it would not move farther north is due to the arctic high pressure. It is forecasted to be -12 in Concord, NH tonight however; unless it drops 26 degrees from 9 o'clock it will not reach that temperature. Therefore that means that the arctic high pressure is diminishing quicker than the meteorologist/models think that it is going to. Which means that the track of the low will move farther north. With this thought I believe that Southern NH will bear the brunt of this storm. I'm sticking with my original prediction of 12-16 inches for the Sunapee ragged region. You all probably think I'm crazy going against 6 different weather channels, but just wait and see.

porter

ps this happened with the storm that dropped 52 inches in pinkham notch. They were only supposed to get about 8, when the low moved fartehr north and pentrated the cold air. They ended up with 8 times the snow predicted. I'm not saying that is going to happen this time, I'm just saying that the low will move farther north to hit southern NH instead of southern mass

Salida- you might be on to something, or you might not. The 18z ETA crushed southern New Hampshire, but that high pressure up north is very strong...strong enough to drive low level cold air all the way south of Atlanta with freezing rain all over northeast Georgia....plus, there is a bunch of low pressure systems sitting upstream that aren't going anywhere fast. This storm cannot move north of the Cape and likely won't. 00z guidance is coming out as we speak so that will be a huge help.

Ya I was waiting for that data, but I am not making this prediction off of the models. Look at the temps, because they are showing where the arctic air is. Its 13 in Concord, about the same as southern mass, its going to move farther north.

just my opinion

One other thing, its about 10 degrees all the way from killington to tenney. I think 12+ inches will fall anywhere south of there, including there. Also look at Mount Washington its 14 degrees, temp. inversion. The arctic high is breaking up faster than predicted

With Mt Washington at +12F and Berlin at -19F, that's a strong inversion. But a strong inversion is a sign of strong high pressure. We'll have to wait and see what happens with this one.

heading out now to looneyville for wed and kmart for sure on thurs.. ill try and go live from k at freds freeride with a post, if i can, thurs morning

There is 12" of new snow in my yard from todays storm. It is as light as talcum powder and would make for ideal snow on the slopes if only we had any here on Long Island. The local resorts such as Mohawk and Mountain Creek report 8-10" of new snow, so the local skiing should be good today.

Great storm, especially here in central ny.

I skied last night at Greek Peak while it was dumping and it was very powdery. Went out again first thing this morning to get some fresh tracks in the 10" of snow that had fallen on the non-lit trails that accumulated the snow last night without us powder hounds tracking it all up. All I can say is woooohooo! Yup, talcum pow. Fabulous morning of skiing. Its still coming down. I'm going back out after work. Gotta love night skiing.

I wonder how Marc is doing at Plattekill.

One more thing...

Bubba plowed the driveway for 6 hours today!! He attests to over a foot of snow (in Newfield anyway), and it kept comin down all day adding a few more inches. He says there's no place left to put snow, so if it snows again, we'll need a bucket loader.

we did not get much in worc. mass--

berk east/ bousquets/ blandford,ski areas all got 6 to 8" in ma.

the hot spots were: ski plattekill ny-17" new snow.
plus--saw wether on ch.7 tv...forecaster said"we were so close". yahh right.

ok---long island got over a foot.....then he says,i was so close -i just missed my mark.i was a bit off.

NOTHING in Laconia (Lakes Region) NH...

I'm sad

We definitely got spoiled with that early season snow... (I just wish the rain hadn't come after that!)
