Machine-groomed granular and eastern firm. Pleyuugggghhhhh!

The warm spell and the rain last week did a number on the snow. Sluice and Spillway were scraped down to boiler plate/race snow by 11:00. By 1:00 there was a deep layer of shavings on both edges of the trails which made for interesting skiing - if you tried to ski it like a mogul, the entire foot-deep pile would just swallow and grab your feet as you extended into it. Weird.

It was a warm day - had the legs on my pants full-open all day, just a polypro and a wide-open shell up top, and I still went through 2-liters of water between 9 and 2. Despite the warmth, the snow never softened up.

The snowmakers were setting the guns back up on Spillway in the afternoon. Hopefully they're blowing right now. It's cold enough and they certainly need the cover - none of the trails are covered full-width right now.

With little cold air to work with, and the possibility of rain Tuesday, Thanksgiving Day conditions are going to SUCK -- there's something interesting in the models for Friday on the last three runs however, so the weekend might be salvagable. I hope it doesn't bugger-off to the Canadian Maritimes between now and then instead of hitting the US east coast like the models figure now.

Still, it beats going to work, and it was good to get back to the 'loaf. The attitude there is just so much more laid-back than Someday Bigger, and the average skill level is quite a bit higher too. Oddly enough, so is the average clue level. Go figure...

Sad that the skiing is not really good in New England neither...

At least, for Thanksgiving weekend, I'm sure that it will be better in USA than our thanksgiving in Canada :-P !

i don't think i'll always feel like this, but at this point in my ski career, i subscribe to some words i heard plake utter a few years back :
" there are no sh***y conditions... just sh***y skiers "... that may be a little harsh, but at this point, i'm buying it :-)

Plake skis 300+ days a year.

For us mortals, ski days are too precious to waste on bad snow. It's not that I can't ski it, it's just not the most enjoyable way to get down the hill. Kind of like how a Geo Metro will get you to work and can be made to handle well but it's more enjoyable to drive something with more comfort and performance...

I saw Plake skiing with his wife and kids at loon 2 years ago, wasn't a promo, he was just out skiing with the fam, he definitely has taken some turns in the east.

i hear the time arguement rob, which i assume is also somewhat tied to money also... my only point is if it is a choice between not skiing strictly because of conditions and doing nothing particularly constructive, i choose to ski.... but if it is related to money and time, i understand that...

I agree with Plake's comment. There are no sh***y conditions. For me the conditions are either good, great, really great and ?$%*?%*% amazing!!!

Unfortunately, unlike Plake I cannot ski 300 times a year. Need to work (outside the ski world), work around the house and take care of the kids. Prior to all this, it was studies and other stuff. So unless, we have a major career change, we will have to make do with what mother nature gives us.
