Telluride: Gold Hill 6-10 (& Palmyra Peak)

On the upper mountain at Whistler the rain events are random, not particularly seasonal, so TRam and others who have had that experience are just unlucky IMHO. In general, I'm skeptical of early/late season deals (much more of early) because at the typical ski resort odds of good coverage/conditions are considerably reduced as you get farther away from the mid-January to mid-March core of the season.

Whistler is in fact one of the better places to take the early/late season risks. Mid-December is about the average time that Extremely Canadian can start running their clinics, which require adequate coverage of the steeps. I've been at Whistler in early April, and the alpine has max coverage, a bit better visibility and usually still packed powder conditions even though the snow near the village may be slop.

whistler in early-mid april is my best bet. like tony says, alpine is max coverage and who care about below alpine as that's just to get you to beer anyway. plus, usually after april 5th, rates drop 30% or so for "late" season.
