dude...4" on top of iced over mess does not = pow by any stretch of the imagination!!!

The only ice I've seen all year is the ice I put on my back (expect the iceflow on MRG steep before the last storm). Conditions are amazing...Although we are 20% less in snow accumulation versus last year's almost record snow year, the snowpack is twice as high as last year at this time.

I'm so sad I cannot take fully advantage of it. :(

Let's not confuse the issue. Snowpack does not equal powder. If you can feel bottom on your turns, it's not a powder day.

Or your skis are too fat.

I was disputing the "ice" statement. Unfortunately I haven't been out much, but there is surely some bottomless to be found. I didn't touch bottom on part of my 2 of my last 3 days. Yeah, I've been out racing on groomed "packed powder (which is generately exagerated term) stuff on the other nights.

That looks to me much more like heinously wind-affected cool whip than powder.

hey, i never said it was an untracked powder day. untracked in as good as 2 inches of the finest corn in the form of perfect wind buff is more like it. and that wind affected looking stuff was soft, but not what i was making turns in. look a little further over and yes, it is very smooth all of the way down.

the skiing sure is great out there, great here too and so much more charming here.
After spending much of my adult life in southern New England, and skiing 18 of my 25 yrs worth there, I've had it with charming, quaint and soulful.

I didn't write that sentence well. Should have clarified: in the northeast, I've only skied in VT, NH, and ME. Predominantly Sugarbush, MRG, Stowe, Sugarloaf. Secondarily, Mt Snow, Stratton, Okemo, Bromley, Magic, as those were within day-trip distance. I lived in central CT, but skied in northern New England.

gotcha! however, living in the north country, enjoying winter out of the back door and in the bigger hills on days off is much different, especially when you take all of the chaotic city crap out of the picture. throw the ocean in just a few miles away and you got it all+the charm. and if ya wanna get outta town for a time, just go to foofyland. i'm booked for march 4th-12th for fooyland. i'll fly the 3rd and the 13th giving me 9 days as i wanna save some vaca time for skiing in the chic chocs or norway in april/may. haven't bought my plane ticket yet, but the lodging and skiing is covered per usual.

I arrive March 7 for my Iron Blosam week. Will icelantic put in an appearance among FTO skiers on this trip?

ya know what? i bet it'd be a great time! just as long as folks don't mind waitin up for a mole hill rippin east coaster. i'll be staying and skiing with craig, but i'm sure he wouldn't mind riding some lifts for at least one day or part of one. checked flights last night and they seem reasonable. OH @#$% TONY! if yer gonna be there when i'm there, do you know what this means? the most ultra high pressure of high pressures will come over the (bring em young) state. our track record for the pukefests is pretty much a joke, thank god for climbing skins and often overlooked acreage in the wasatch. or, maybe since we'll both be there it'll have a reverse effect and it'll snow 2" an hour the whole time. this will be very interesting. 8-[

I wish I could visit at the same time!!! Sadly, my trip to whistler is now off as I've been re-admitted into the hospital. It's a serious bummer. The other option is a short trip to Colorado to visit my friend at vail, breck, and arapahoe, around march 23rd or so.
