The latest I have heard gives mixed opinions on the weather this Friday/Saturday. Some reports are saying that N. Vermont could see mostly snow and possibly as much as 6-12", others are suggesting that this is an all rain event.

Scott what are your latest thoughts?

The storm continues to trend south east. Looks to me like much of VT could be on the cold side... meaning no change over and much more snow.

Man, I hope you're right! This weekend I'm doing Okemo on Saturday -- I'd go further north, but a buddy of mine from the New York Daily News will be there on business and we want to ski together on Saturday. Saturday night, though, I'll head north to be somewhere +/- the VT/QC border for Sunday. Hopefully this move will help me avoid liquid precipitation's impact if this storm ends up colder than expected.

Will anyone else be around either of these two chosen destinations this weekend?

this is for Scott,

Nice job on the weather reporting. I can't believe you aren't studying to be a meteorologist. You are such a natural.

I may drive to North Creek friday. Was wondering if the roads will be icy up there, or if it looks like just liquid precip?

You mention a strong clipper on sunday. I will likely be driving from North Creek to Ithaca sunday. I do not like driving away from mountains in the snow (would rather be driving to the mountains in a snowstorm). What I'd like to know is, can you recommend a departure time that would minimize the amount of driving in the snow. Lake effect may be an issue. I usually take Route 8 to 365 to Rome to the NYS Thruway. This route can be dicey in bad weather. Sometimes going the long way (to the Northway to Albany and Route 88 over) can be less hazardous than driving route 8 in the snow when the lake effect is heavy, and can take about the same amount of time if the interstate hwy conditions are better than the state roads.

So with your weather knowledge, can you make any suggestions on when a good departure time would be, and/or which route may be a better bet .

Thanks

You all may want to check out the weather page on Sugarbush's website. Roemer provides and excellent discussion on the current storms and upcoming weather pattern.

To avoid ticking off the wrong people, I'll let others comment on this.

Hey Marc - right now it's looking like I'll be at Jay Peak on Sunday for the tele-fest. Let me know if you make it that far north.

Did anybody see the updated forecast discussion out of the Burlington NWS?? This puppy's changing for the better by the minute! I may have to eat my words about Roemer. Baby, bring it on!

I wouldn't be suprised to see some 24in totals, then the next storm coming in on Sunday should drop another foot. EPIC

Sharon, Thanks for the kudos! I think driving to Gore on Friday might be a little dicey and the earlier the better. I think it'll be liquid most of the way though, especially on friday before colder air gets drawn in. On the note of the clipper...that system will still move in but might be a little slower arriving due to upstream blocking from this storm system digging a little more. Still looking like it could be squally off the lakes with light snowfall of 2-5 inches away from the lakes in Northern NY and Vermont. I'd think that we'll hafta see just when this clipper arrives because if its not till Sunday night, Lake Effect wont be going then...it'll crank after it passes and the cold air is drilled into New York. Stay Tuned. I think you should be fine doing the normal route if you aren't very late on Sunday. If you ski till 3 or 4 and leave afterwards you'll really only hafta deal with light snow from the clipper with lake effect following sunday night into monday.

Not gonna happen. 3"-6" for the clipper on Sunday/Monday. It's moving fast and doesn't have much moisture to work with.
