We used Surefoot, where I got my boots done. I've been very happy with my boots, and she is extremely happy too. I would recommend Surefoot to anyone here. They are professional, they do a great job, and after the initial fitting all further work is free. There is a Surefoot in the city. From what I can tell many of the fitters knew each other from the Whistler store to the New York store. For people with weird feet like Nikki and I Surefoot makes a great product.

Richard has weird feet and used Surefoot also. He needed some fine tuning after the intial fit, so it was some advantage to be able to do that in a resort and not have to go back to Santa Monica. That said, word of mouth in Mammoth is that Surefoot is not as good as Footloose.

A specific reference in NYC could of course be as good as anyone. But a random ski shop in NYC (based upon my generally low opinion of those in L.A. metro) is likely to be far less competent than a random ski shop in Whistler.

The advantage of Surefoot, is you can have your liner and footbeds done in the city, and then fine tune once you're at the mountain. I've had a few hot spots removed and had work done to remove minimal heel wash as the boot has been used more over time at Vail and Whistler and PC. My old boots used to give me black toe, and I had problem spots all over the place. My Surefoots on the otherhand has changed my skiing, with both comfort and performance.

My intuition with Surefoot is they only do as good a job as the store's manager does. I think I've been lucky as the boot fitters I've had have all done a great job and understand skiing physics well. They must also treat their fitters well, as all the fitters that were there when I got my boots 2 years ago are still there.
