Well Tele Jon, Bob D, Becky, and myself went up anyway....pretty much skinned from behind the workers quarters. Mostly stuck to the access road for the skin up, only deviating for a few shortcut climbs. Made it up top pretty handily, didnt check time, but i'd expect not much more than 2 hours to Collins top.
The first few pitches were actually VERY good...real skiing. The snowfall the week before gave a "supportable" base to the VERY LIGHT new snow. As we got closer back towards Watson Shelter things got tricky. the new snow was super light so it didnt support anything...you pretty much went right to rock. you had to stay on your toes, unfortunately i didnt not follow that advice the entire way down as I had a pretty nasty crash, then a little later on the access road back down I had another that kinda rung my bell...The first crash led to a ripped jacket elbow (brand new jacket mind you) and, wait for it........8 stitches in my elbow...at the time i didnt check to see the elbow damage we just continued down...probably took another 25 min to reach car, once the jacket came off and the shirt was pulled up we all knew it was time for a trip to the emergency room. Funny that I didnt care about the injury until I saw it..but man did I NOT FEEL good after seeing it, Tele Jon was very accommodating and dropped me at the emergency room
I didnt think much of the second crash on the access road but i do remember seeing that "flash" of light when you whack your head pretty good..I forgot my helmet in the car....needless to say I am very stiff this morning and driving in this morning noticed some extreme stiffness in my neck so I may be heading home to rest and possibly hitting up the Dr to see if I have whiplash or something...
Well it was fun for the first few pitches, then....well. Knock on wood, in my nearly 30 years of skiing this is the first time I had to go to the hospital for anything ski related...
You win some, you lose some.
