Woodbury Ski Area CT November 9th 2003

I just returned from a ski trip to Woodbury Ski Area in connecticut. After looking at there webcam photo and calling the ski report, I decided to take the trip with my wife and son to get my first tracks of the season. The skiing was okay with adequate base depths of about 2-24" and there were about 12-18 people out on the hill while I was there. There were only 3 skiers out on the slope, the rest being snowboarders. I have just purchased a new digital camera, and will post images later when I can download them to my computer. It feels funny to ski without Killington being opened, its the first time I have done this in my 20+ years of skiing.

Here is a picture from the top of the rope tow (I hope it comes out). There was about 150' vertical available with the rope tow, at least it beats raking leaves. I talked with the owner of the mountain(Rod Taylor) and thanked him for making snow to ski on. He said that he wanted to open in late October but he had a problem with the pumps for his snowmaking system and the window of cold weather was too short. The forecast for the next week here does not look all that great for any substantial skiing so I decided to go here, plus wednesday is my birthday, so I wanted to be sure to get my first day before then. If Hunter is open to the base by next weekend I might go there.

Congrats for your first tracks, Kevin !

I didn't know it was 150' high... this is 3 times higher than Tenney, so that counts, to me !

12-18 people on the hill... ish, we were a little bit more than that today at MSS. With the turnover, the snowboarders stopped in the Middle 70 before they groomed it, etc, there was probably close to 750-1000 skiers/boarders. (at a moment, there was over 100 persons in the middle 70, looking for some big airs)
