Killington closing day 5/11/04

Since skiing revenues continue to decline, it doesn't look like eradicating moguls has brought out the "the mainstream skier" in sufficient numbers to make a difference.

I'd venture that grooming is "a 70's thing"... for all the old men like Anonynous, whose knees can't make it down...

    Cannon Mt. 3/17/04

Skied Cannon on St. Patrick's Day, and the report of 5"-7" new was accurate. It snowed on and off throughout the day, heavily at times, probably accumulating another 2" by late afternoon. It was "dust on crust" conditions, even though 7 inches is a lot of "dust". All this light fluff fell on top...

    Ski the east

Not enough for 4 days in my opinion. Whiteface is not as tough or steep as it's rep, unless it's icy when your there. Try it but then keep heading east for MRG and stowe. Jay is also worth a day - more if there's snow.

    Conditions

I used to call local ski shops or even bars to find out what the conditions were. These days baords like this one help a lot. Also, snow making and grooming have come a long way.

But you guys are right ski areas just can't bring themselves to say, "Skiing's pretty good considering...

NH man afflicted with Mad POW Disease(JayPeak 1/23)

OK, NHPH, I hear Mad POW is not transmitted by casual contact, so it's still safe to ski with you, (*as long as we don't consume any of your brain tissue, nerve tissue, or ski glades at Jay with you).

    Cannon, NH - 1/11/04

The temperatures finally warmed up into the positive digits by mid-day, so in spite of a 30MPH wind, I donned the full face mask-goggles-helmet and ventured out to ski a few runs. The mountain was in a cloud, with light snow falling (falling is too kind a word, it was blowing).
...

    Cannon Mt, NH - 1/02/04

    Friday, 1/02/04 update:

Tram still closed, only the Cannonball Quad running to the summit.

Profile closed, so now only one route down from the summit.

All other trails the same as yesterday.

Scattered mountain flurries added maybe an inch during the...

    Mohawk Mtn CT 1/1/04

Kevin, Thanks for the report on Mohawk. We're considering a day there next Saturday. With the crappy weather forcast for the next several days, I hope they can somehow hold onto their base.

    Cannon Mt., NH - 1/01/2004

Sorry to say the conditions are almost as bad as they can get. ALL of that foot of snow received Christmas Day, one week ago, is gone. And the dustings of the past couple of days have not made any improvement, either. At least none of it remains on the trails (some still lurking in the trees at...

    Loon mtn, NH 12/02-03

You pull out a nice big bud, then another, then another.....finally you look in the bottom of your baggie and all that's left is loose fluffy remnants that got passed over......THAT'S "shake".

Excellent turn of phrase by your buddy Gil.

Let me guess, Gil sometimes disapears in...

Highland Center at Crawford Notch rant

"Highprice Center"; a fitting name for the Appalachian Money Club's new clubhouse!
NHPH, I agree whole-heartedly.

Winter storm warning for northern New England

Don't know if this is true but I just heard through a guy at work that, "...there's 24" and it's still comin' down!" at Jay Peak.

    Snowboarders?.. Head Count

I'm a long-time skier who started riding a couple years ago. I now split my time between skiing and boarding. I'm still a much better skier so If I'm at a challenging mountain, or heading into the trees I'm on skis. When I go to smaller, easier areas with my wife & son I'm on the board. My...

Killington's new 'Early Season Policy' !

It seems like you guys feel like the big K owes you something. You know my preference, to not ski until there is a good amount and variety of terrain open. And I think it's fine that areas are opening with just enough brown-stained-whiteness to make a dozen or so turns. I've done that myself...

    Recomendations for skiing around christmas

Any place that has extensive snowmaking. Although, some years the east does get plenty of natural by Xmas. Last year we went to Okemo the day after and enjoyed the 26" that dropped on 12/25. Everywhere is crowded though.
